    G'Day Fellas,

Well I got a hold of my tuner today, it's a Screaming Eagle Super Tuner Pro. I installed all the software and there was a section where I can enter details of the bike. Now I dont know many of the details? for instance the previous owner said it was a 103ci engine. Wheather this is true or not? i just reckon the bike is quick.

Things I do know are fitted to the bike are:

    - Original pipes, but these will change to V and H Short Shorts with quiet and smart partz baffles fitted

    - K and N air filter; and

    - manual decompression heads.

Will the exhaust be classed as a "Race Exhaust" ? please correct me if I'm wrong.

Is there a danger in smart tuning the bike if I get the discplacement wrong e.g. he said it was 103ci when its 96ci or if I select 96ci and it is actually 103ci.

I plan on taking it to Sy's in the next couple of weeks, but just don't wanna walk in sounding like a goose however I do plan on smart tuning the bike once I get my head around this program.

    Cheers Ryno

    Thanks

Sweet that's the idea I'm going for. Still have a good note, but get the sound down. Hopefully it give me a bi of back pressure so I don't loose too much mid range torque.

To make the tune work best it is recommended to make sure of your engine size.

I have a TTS, it can allow changes the engine size value on a map at any time.

Yes, the vance & hines pipes you fit will be need to be classed as race pipes. Harley considers all non-genuine pipes as 'race exhausts fit for track race use only'

Putting in the wrong the the wrong engine size can mess up ignition values and there are different rates of compression. The bike will just run like a dog.

My sporty is now a 1250, I once accidentally loaded and 883 map into the bike it just choked and stalled after 10 seconds of idle.

Get all your figures spot on and all of your parts installed and then play with your tune.

If the guys in the workshop think you're a goose for asking for advice then you're in the wrong workshop and they don't deserve your business. No question should be a stupid question.

I'd feel more like a goose for not asking for some help and then blowing an engine.

Buy some oil or some parts from them while you're there to show some support and thanks for the advice.

Cheers for the reply. Part of my problem is I can't tell if it had a 103 kit? Is there some way of telling without pulling the engine apart? That goes with cams and things aswell.

So if I get it dyno tuned the tuner will be able to tell me if it's a 103 and if it's got different cams?

Yeah I thought so, I take it you wouldn't put manual decompression valves on a standard engine. So I guess I can make a reasonable assumption that the 103 kit is actually in it. Is removing the cam cover difficult?

the heads could be from another motor that did require compression releases

Yeah I didn't really think of of that. Hopefully that's not the case. Could I somehow check the compression and that would give me an indication?

    not really, to many variables.
    what thickness head gasket?
    what cc head volume?
    deck height?
    piston top volume?
if you knew the CCP and the cam specs you would still need all the above at least to start reverse calculating the bore and stroke

Just take it in and get it tuned. You don't know the history of the bike and that don't matter. May help the tunner guy knowing where to start but it doesn't sound that radical so he should be able to tune it well with out any trouble.

Ok well I guess I will just take the previous owners word for it then take it to a tuner and key him make it work. Do you think it'sWworth removing the cam cover to see what cams are in it? Or just not bother if it's just going to get tuned.

the guy tuning the bike don't NEED to know anything about it if he is any good

Yeah I just realised there was more info in your previous post, I didn't see because I checked the thread using my phone. Thanks for your help. My pipes get here tonight so I will be off to the tuner on the weekend.

Unless your bike and/or the engine work is from the US, if the last owner didn't have receipts, couldn't be at least put you in touch with the engine guy or shop?
Also, shouldn't the bike already be tuned to the build? And I'd also be curious why no tuning module came with the bike

not everyone gives the device with the bike.
I kept the powervision from my last bike and use it on the new one

The guy said it was tuned to the standard pipes from peter stevens. They said they flashed it when I called them. But they couldn't tell me what the engine mods were. They reckon it came here to Aus with the kit installed. I have a SEPST for the bike that came with it from the previous owner(he bought this with the bike from peter stevens), would that hold the previous flashes or tunes or anything like that? I downloaded the software but need to buy the cables to hook my laptop up to the bike.

Ahh that makes sense. But unfort the module doesn't store the tunes

If I fit the pipes myself, will the bike be ok to ride 30km or so to the tuning shop?

sure why not. lots of stuff is fitted at home and sometimes weeks before getting tuned if at all.
