Motor bike tolls on Monash fwy

Just noticed today that they are going to start charging tolls for motorbikes on the Monash Freeway in Melb. If there is one form of transport that relieves congestion on the roads its two wheeled transport. They will start charging pushbikes registration next, then have riding licences for pushies where the admistration costs more than they make on licence charges.

The pollies are going fucking nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like motorcycles are not exempt from any of the toll roads in Victoria as of Jan 1:

But I don't think you can blame the pollies for this change of heart.  The toll road owners/operators always had the right to charge motorcyclists but they didn't bother because it required extra rear facing cameras to "see" the motorbike rego.  Looks like they think it is now worth their while to invest in extra cameras and charge motorcyclists.

My vehicals are registered with east link (which also covers city link somehow) and bikes are charged to use that. It was only a matter of time before this happened. Nothing is truly free these days.

Surely this diminishes the argument for front number plates now??? They won't be needed?!! HA

    Hi,

whats the best way to pay for the tolls now, is Melbourne Pass the best bet for weekend riders using the citylink and eastlink, it was difficult to find exact pricing on it

i used both on saturday and just bought a citylink weekend pass($7.50) and eastlink return trip pass ($5.50) roughly

    thanks

Best way would be to avoid the tolls, but best to ask the guy riding in front of me on Saturday as I headed back into Melbourne from Bacchus Marsh. He had an interesting tactic.

But if you want to be legitimate there is a way to set up an account using your rego only, no need for an etag for motorcycles.

    Hi,

You stop at Bordertown? China's favorite coffee and raisin toast cafe there just as you drive in

    Thanks

Qantas were serving lemon shortbread, they don't offer a stopover in bordertown anymore.

We left the bike in Melbourne and flew home. Going to tour Tasmania on the bike in Feb.
