    Hi All,
Hope you had a great Xmas/New Year,
I have a quick question for all you 103 owners.

Recently fitted a 103 to my 06 Lowrider (The 88 had ticked up over 120,000K's)
I ride 75% Alone to 25% 2 - Up, I am 104Kgs and Mrs about 60 Kgs (Not sure, touchy subject)
When two up cruise along at 110 to 120, When on own this may rise.
Probably spend 80% of time between 2500 and 4000 RPM but like to give it a squirt now and then.
I am running all 06 Electrics and having issues with no decompression on start up.

So I am going to get Easy Start cams fitted.

    My Question is:

    I can go:

    1.            585 Easy Start Cams, Adj Pushrods, Lifters, Gear Drive kit, Full Dyno Tune

    2.            551 Easy Start Cams, Adj Pushrods, Lifters, 4 Degree Adj Cam gear etc, Full Dyno Tune

    Difference in cost about $850.00

Which way would be best ?
Anyone running these types of combo's feedback would be appreciated. I am booked in for work to be done just need some help with which way to jump.

Just a quick ?, why would you want the +4 advance with the S&S 551 cam?

l have an 09 dresser which was 96 , bought the 103 kit with the 255 cams , loved the cams but not the starter issues with the higher compression , so l fitted the S&S 585 cams ,no more problem. The only difference is the bike now idles at around 1000 revs , because the ramps on the cams don't retract till the engine is doing above 800 revs. l fitted the chain cams because the tensioners on the cam chains were upgraded for the 09 and on models

    Cairns,
Have been told will allow to rev and make power a bit longer (To just over 4000 rpm from memory), not sure but, as I am no mechanic.
    Sag,
    Thanks for that.
Does that mean with the 2013 103 I should have the upgraded tensioners ?? If so may just go the 551's as they seem to cover most of what I will be doing (90% of the time anyway).
I suppose the only real reason for the extra is to get the chain drive cams.
The $850 saving would be handy right about now anyway.

Mmmmm I used to think I was a procrastinator, now I am not so sure.

Yes you have all the latest mods if you own a 2013 model but you also have the factory decompressors where my model does not , that is why S&S brought out those cams so regardless of what compression you decide to run your starter will be able to crank the engine. For your 06 model with the SE 103 kit l believe you can upgrade your tensioners to the latest style, the gear drives are a more positive cam timing but for the riding most of us do in the real world the chain drives are fine

It all depends on the crank shaft run out if you can run gear or chain type cams. The -4 will roll the cam to the right a few hundred RPM and drop the comp a few cc's. I take it your running stock cams now ?

    Hogbag, Yes I am.

Sag, Its not a 103 kit, its a 2013 103 Engine out of an FXDF so should have the improved tensioners but as still using ecu etc from 06 Lowrider I dont think it has the decomp.

On balance I think I will go with the 585 gear drive set up.
This bike is probably going to be my last before hitting three wheels ( Sidecar/Trike/Spyder) so may as well enjoy it.
