Removing 2013 Fatboy ABS unit to fit Arlen Ness 3" Forward control extensions

I own a 2013 Fatboy with ABS and being tall I changed out the running boards to forward controls. I was still not happy with the leg room so decided to fit Fwd Control extensions - the left one was very easy... ut the right one with brake line into ABS unit ?????
Can anyone give me some help in how to change out the brake line at the ABS unit to allow me to fit new Arlen Ness 3" Fwd control Extensions. I have removed exhaust to get to the ABS unit but cannot see how to get the ABS unit out to get access to the brake line bolts - even after removing the two bracket bolts which hold the unit to the chassis.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

You will also find that with forward controls on a fat boy your feet are going to hit the fender when you turn

Thanks for the input guys...... but I went ahead and done it anyway.

I finally got it sorted yesterday, it took me all day but it is now done. A very fiddly job but I found once I jacked up the bike to lower the rear wheel enough to get the mud guard off, things became a little bit easier. Once guard is off, access to remove the ECU, BCM and brackets is better, and once the exhaust is off, you can then get to the ABS to remove brake line.

All done, back together with the Arlen Ness 3" extensions, brakes bled and road tested.
The extra leg room is great, very comfortable....... In regards to the comment about the front fender Walka - WRONG! - Feet come no where near the front fender it may look like the pegs are close, but believe me it clears by around 3" - I am size 11 shoe.... you would need to have some seriously big feet to overhang the pegs enough to foul on the fender.

I recommend for anyone who needs more leg room. some pics attached

Hi I have just purchased a new fatboy and I would also like to fit forward controls to it , The ABS looks tricky..    Will I have the same problems if I dont fit the 3in extensions and have just standard forward controls .

    regards Vinny

    Hi Vinny,

No problems with standard forward controls. If fitting the AN 3" extensions, you also need to fit a new longer brake line to accomodate - you wont need to do that for standard Fwd Cntrls. I fiited standards originally and is quite straightforward to do, you will still need to remove the brake master cylinder to fit the new fwd cntrl brackets - so obviously, bleeding the brakes is a must but very easy to do.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

    Hi Ginge

And thanks heeps I really apprecaite your input , I am going to tackle it today , Just by looking at I dont think that I will have to do anything to the brakes or bleed them there is a slot on the standard foot board brackets and also on the new brackets that the brake cylinder will slide threw once undone , I couldnt see anything that would affect the ABS . Once I start I might find somthing I bet

    regards Vinny

    No probs mate,

Your are right about the slot, but you may still have to remove the brake line from the front of cylinder so you can loosen the large locking nut enough to get master cyl off....... c how you go.

    I'd be interested.

Hi Ginge   ..... Job all done ,,,, Very easy no need to remove brake line or do any work with the ABS  The big nut at front of Master cylinder loosens easy and no need to un do brake line , the hardest thing was to remove pin at back of master cylinder once split pin was taken out , I had to punch it threw with a nail punch ,Perhaps it was put in wrong from the start . Now all on and feels and looks great . I was told I had to bleed brakes and recomputer ABS,, I am no brain surgen but if you have a look you will see its just a bolt off and on job

    regards Vinny
