Do I need to Dyno Tune bike after installing a SE TUNER

    Hi All

I'm just new here and wanted your opinion on the fofollowing

I have a 2009 Dyna Superglide Custom, I am about to install a performance machine air cleaner and SE Tuner. My usual HD dealer advised that all that is needed is to install the normal factory software for my bike to get it right.

I was passing another HD dealer who advised me that even tough they would be matching the maps for my bike from Harley they also highly recommended a Dyno Tune as well. They advised that this will customise the bike to reach its potential?

The way I understood is that by replacing the air cleaner and installing a SE Tuner it automatically maximises the bike output and ride????

Could you help me on this

    thanks

Well, if you are happy to see your bike have its nuts revved out at the limiter in every gear- go for it!

    Fark dat!

I cams, air kit, pipes and a TTS. I have used a canned map and the bike is running fantastically. Yeah, dyno tuning might get me a few more horses, or a few more Ks out of a tank, but I KNOW the bike is running fine, as there are other ways to tell than rev the shit out of it.

    Just my 0.2

    Hey ZMAN,
I tune not only bikes but almost everything that runs on fuel and I am yet to get a HD brought in that has a good tune in it. The whole reason I started to tune HD's was because I had my own bike done and after checking the plugs it was obvious that I was close to burning the top off my pistons. While a canned map will be no doubt better than a std tune. It is no different than your Falcon and Commodores, if you changed the exhaust and intake they also need to be tuned!!!

    Hi Ant

Thanks for your reply and advise.

Can you tell me a bit more about tuning, how long does it take, where are you based,

    and cost.

    And your details

    cheers

Just a question to ponder, does HD Australia check or build custom maps to suit our conditions (fuel, etc) for the SE tuners ?
Or are the supplied maps just the same as the USA ?

If you have the tuning module, why not spend another $100 or so just to check it, and if it's close enough, then good enough.
If it's dangerously lean, or rich, you can decide to make it right.
Despite some opinions, running your bike on the Dyno will do NO harm.
And they don't bounce them off the limiter in every gear, but I sure as hell do on occasion !

I dont wont to break into the thread regarding the SE tuner , but I have a question for Dynoharley, or others.  I have read a number of times on the forum you have guys come to your place and have their bikes checked and tuned in your workshop on your dyno.  A great service for a small donation, you should be commended for this !!!  Unfortunatlly I live a long way from you, so this is only a question to learn from you vast experience .

    OK the question

Bike is a 2009, 96 cub, Electra Glide Standard. The bike is stock , other than Cycle Shack slash up slipon mufflers and a high flow A/C.  The Cat has been removed from the header pipe.  I have a Cobra FI 2000r  fuel module ,(the one with the 3 dials) installed.(  You can see pictures of bike in "my pics';)

I realize the Cobra Fi2000 is a basic fuel only module, but would you be satisfied after doing you magic on the dyno and dialing in the pots of the Cobra module so as the afr is in your opinion within limits of not to lean, not to rich for a bike with the above specs !!!

Look mate, the bike has'nt missed a beat since I've had her, and performance wise ,(and I'm no expert) does me !!     I know I may get coments that these piggyback type fuel modules are shit , go and get a proper tuner, but its on the bike , I'd just like to confirm if possibe,  that the  module is working as advertised ,and  richening up the afr over stock settings so technically I have a cooler , better performace ride than I other wise would have.

Shit , I just read my post before hitting the submit button,  I think I have broken into this thread , sorry !!!   Ah well,  comments from this may be helpful to other on the forum !!  Cheers Mark

    Hi ZMAN,
Depending on the time it takes it will cost between 300-500 for a bike like yours. Please also remember, just like all petrol engine vehicles a usual common sense approach applies.
If your bike rides well after a canned map, doesnt get hot or misbehave, simply remove the spark plugs and check they are a resonable color and have not been too hot. If all of these boxes have been ticked you are usually pretty safe to assume your bike is not in danger of problems. Unfortunately as the tuners become more and more complex, there is more chance of the tune being wrong, and as there are thousands of settings in a given tune, it will always be unlikely that a specification tune is exact if not directly done for that bike...
I hope that helps rather than confuses.
    Cheers- Anthony
