Have just taken delivery of a new 2013 Ultra Classic and have now done 1300km and absolutely love it; BUT

Whats with all the heat generated @ the right ankleand leg area.

Is there an easy fix or is it pipes etc.........?

Any other suggestions from the worldly knowledge of the forum?; previously on a softail!

    Thanks in advance,

Probably the cat. Either take it out, which is the cheapest option above new headers, or learn to live with it. It's only because its the middle of summer that you're feeling it. Most of the year, it'll be fine.

lose the cat, buy a dog.

Heat wise you can also get oil cooleres these days which even have thermo fans etc.
Jagg oil coolers are prob best value.

Put one off these pipes on value for money if your leaving the bike basically stock with mufflers, cam and a decent tuner.

Whole bunch of my riding mates here in the west have gone to dressers in the last 2 years

I put them all onto TTS tuning , dropped the heat

I put them onto synthetic oil throughout , dropped the heat

Step 3 , first one had the catalytic converter removed from the stock 2:1:2 headers , now they've all done it !

Thankfully they had a "pet" welder with good skills , who used the cut/shut removal system seen on youtube

With V&H Big Monster Ovals as mufflers their bikes seem to "haul ass" for dressers , and not overly loud !

Mate , try a good search/read of the US Harley forums

Why ? Because theyre way big into "Baggers" AKA Touring bikes over there

That's where I found all the info for my mates

TTS is just one of the tuning products available , I just find it the easiest to use personally

Cruise, I've got a 2012 FLTRX and had same issues when new. Went SERT, a/c and SE touring mufflers with 254e cams. Still had heat, though less. Got Fullsac ceramic coated and cat-less header pipe and now a different bike. Fullsac are in Arizona and do various header pipes for baggers and have a TTS and tune for whatever setup you go for. Not perfect I'm sure, but I'm happy and so are the US bagger riders.

Before you pull the trigger on a tuner, consider the Fullsac package ... or not? Just a suggestion, but Retroman is right. Check out the US sites for your bike, they are VERY popular in US.

Good luck whatever way you go. No cat means big smile!
