Noise from Primary Side? Need ideas

Ok I require some assistance in this.  Bike is an 07 Softail 75K on the clock.  Stock apart from Cams and AC and pipes.  I have just returned from a trip to Coffs Harbour 11 Dec.  On return I went for a short blat to my mothers down south of Adelaide.  On the way back I noticed when the engine is hot ( up to temp) I get a rattle/grinding noise from the primary side. And it seemed to be coming from the rear of the primary.  Only when sitting stationary in neutral... Put it into gear and it goes, rev the engine and it goes.  I have just dropped the primary case and checked the Comp nut.  (140ftlbs).  Minimal wear on the Hayden M7 Tensioner.  Chain is snug, no major evedence of wear or damage both in the SE Comp or Clutch basket.

Bike rides well. never missed a beat on the trip.  One thing when I went to my mums I was in second gear at the lights when I took off (Didn't Realise).  I had to ride the clutch a bit but that was all.  Could something have gone when riding the clutch, personally I doubt it... but you never know.

I am now looking at possibilities with the Trans assembly?  Any ideas I would really appreciate it.

What could be the problem.  Main Case bearings?.  And can this be done by myself?  Looking throught the manual it doesn't look a big job to remove the inners.  Case stays in the frame. Or should I leave it to the shop?

    Really appreciate any ideas here

    AJ

from what you have said I would say your in the right area trans main bearing or,primary cover bearing or clutch hub bearing ?evos have one )
start pulling it down bit hard to tell when you have 3 bearings in one area

Clutch Housing Bearing. Just pulled the clutch apart and it is rough as. I span the clutch on the main shaft and that seems to be fine. As soon as I pulled the clutch apart and span it I found the issue.

Also had to replace the clutch hub at the same time. The splines on the inside were damaged and chipped. Seems that this is a common occurrence when the bikes get to a higher mileage. The metal is fatiguing due to the heat cycling. That's my take on it... And crap metal in the manufacturing process as well.
