    G'day guys,

Just wondering re the aus standard helmet sticker. If I buy a helmet in the US, in the same model as sold in Australia, is it legal without Aus standard sticker? I'm thinking  of the bell 500 that's leak in Oz but cheaper in US.

    Thanks

I bought one of the Bell Rouge helmets a few months ago and it came with the American Standard sticker and the Australian Standards sticker on the back. Going off this and what I know about helmet laws; for a helmet to be worn in Australia - it must have an Australian Standards sticker on it.

    Long answer is Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Technically it is also illegal to ride in NSW with a helmet not purchased in NSW, regardless of where your license is issued.

Agreed on the AS sticker. I understand any helmet here minus the AS sticker is a book-able offence, even if yur sticker came off.

I wanted the Bell retro orange metal-flake lid but couldn't get one in OZ. Considered an import but what's the point with no freakin sticker.

Just like the Harleys, they release a massive range of colours in the USA but import only a few choices here. WTF is that about?!

I think it's on the money actually. I might pull my aus standard sticker off my old helmet and put it on the US one. The helmets are sold in Oz anyway...

Won't work. The foil part of the sticker is cut with the word void and there is a clear film over the top. As you peel it, the "void" text is left behind.

    Here's part of the answer.

Also the Motorcycle Council folks took it to Mr O'Farrell after the regs were changed early this year. Seems they polies expressed concern about the fact that they buggered up the wording, but not enough to take it back to parliament. The Premier didn't think that there was any chance that the law would be enforced anyway.

I remember a long time ago a couple of fellows went to jail for refusing to pay fines for having black helmets. However it wasn't illegal to have a black helmet, it was illegal to paint a helmet. This was before helmets came in black from the factory.

Also remember it's not only the sticker that needs to be on the back of the helmet but another label needs to have been sown on inside on the liner with the standards logo and legal mumbo jumbo on it.
They are trying to get uniform Australian wide laws for helmets but as stated every state has different laws and you can ride from one state being within the law and then you enter another state and your helmet is illegal.

yes if you dont have the right legal sticker on your helmet it is very dangerous,

Im guessing without these stickers your head might explode or something.

The sticker is Australian standards not state standards. As long as it has meets Australian Standards AS1698, wear it any where here
