First time Harley owner here, in Perth WA. Just picked up a 2011 XL1200C. No mods other than mid controls, drag bars and air cleaner. Very happy with it so far.

A little background: I had dirt/enduro bikes since I was 12, working my way through to 600 thumpers eventually. My last bike was some 8 years ago, when I was 31, and then I was forbidden from having bikes for a while (young kids and all that). All my previous bikes were all Japanese and I have to admit, Harleys didn't make sense to me until a year or two ago. Testing my brother's 1100 tipped me over the edge. I'm a sucker for engines with low down grunt. And after all, what is a 1200 if not two 600 singles?

So much to the surprise of folks who've known me for a while, I've gone the Harley route and couldn't be happier. I gave serious consideration to a Japanese cruiser but I'm glad I decided to go for the real deal. My wife talked me into taking her for a ride on the back and she enjoyed it much more than she or I expected. I think she especially liked it when I cracked the throttle open a few times.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to enjoying my Sporty and learning a thing or two about them.

Welcome to the forum and to the HD family, your story is a very common one.  My own story is very similar, after not owning a bike for some 15 odd years I bought a jap cruiser about 4 years ago and my wife jumped on the back only on two occasions.  Then last year I bought my first Harley and my wife didn't get on the back for about six months or so, then suddenly one day she suggested we should take the bike to get some lunch.  Since that day she sits on the back most weekends for a ride and even though she has never said it I know she's loving it. Life has never been better.

Hope your story ends as good as mine, welcome again and enjoy the ride!

    My rides.
