883 Iron Seat??

    Hi All,

Well, it's been 7 days since I took delivery of my new 883 Iron (2013).   What a great bike, so much potential for improvement, with Engine Mods and Suspension.

The only issue I am having trouble with is the seat - after around 100K, the arss is pretty painful. I am not sure if this is a conditioning thing or the Iron has a sub-standard seat.

To the owners of the Iron out there - do you share the same complaint and if so, what can one do about it??

    Hi Fritzables,

congrats on the purchase, the possibilities are endless with mods to the iron....

The seat on your iron will condition as you ride more and more....the comfort will improve as you go along......just like a new pair of boots mate.....the more you wear em the better they feel.

Congrats Fritz. Johno is right, the seats wear in over time. I think your arse wears in over time as well...That said, the standard Iron seat is not the most comfortable in the world. I changed mine for a 48 seat and found the smaller seat of the 48 more comfortable. Go figure. TC

    Morning Gents,

Yea, I was hoping it was a matter of timing. I guess after being off a bike for 7 years the body goes soft on ya.
TC, I looked at the 48 Seat and thought exactly the same, but I did see somewhere else recently that some one had done the same thing with positive results.
Much ginning around to get it to fit??

I have the reduced reach solo seat on my bike and when I started riding again at the start of the year, after a few years absent, I lasted about an hour or so (100k's) before I started to ache. I'm sure you'll just have to spend more time in the seat to get used to it.

    Thanks Everyone,

Looks like it's a done deal - do more hours in the saddle - which I plan to do over the next week or so.
In a week I have managed to clock up around 550K, so hopefully by first service it could be all the GO.

I had the standard seat removed from mine and had a two up sportster seated fitted to it, my missus wants to come with me some times so I had to change the seat. The new seat is very comfortable, I kept the original seat in case I decide to go back to the solo.

Which two-up seat do you have Iron? I'm looking at various options at the moment and keen to hear what people are finding good/bad/otherwise.

hey Fritzables, congrats on the 883. Great bike and I'm sure you'll enjoy the ride and extra mods that are available.
I rode my stock seat for nearly 4k and it didn't improve. Such a nice bike but the seat is average especially on long trips. I ride aprox 60km's everyday and I need a seat that is comfortable and works well with my bike.

I ended up purchasing a Roland Sands Enzo Solo which I installed a couple of weeks ago. Its definitely a lot more comfortable than the stock!

If I ever consider going two-up I will look at the Le Pera or the Saddlemen as I heard good things about them...

I just ordered a Lepera Stubs Cafe with diamond seating http://www.lepera.com/seat_pgs/v3_Sport_48_detail.php?SEATID=121 for my new 48 (yep, upgraded the 883 already).  I find that on the stock 48 seat if I give it the berries off the line I slip back on the stock seat and I can't reach the foward controls properly (I'm 5ft 2).  I'm hoping the kickback bit on the Stubs will stop me sliding back.

It's due to ship on May 22.  That's the worst part about getting a custom seat - waiting for it to arrive!

    Will do.

I went the diamond stitch but the seating area will be in charcoal sparkle (my only 'girly' thing on it), And white thread for the diamond stitch and white piping.

They've estimated 22nd May it will be finished and will be shipped priority Fedex.  So 10 days later?
