Hi All,
Name is Pete and live on the southside of Brisbane.
I have been riding for 39 years now, starting with a BSA M20 500c SideValve which I bought for $10 in my last year of High School (Tassie at this stage).
I bought a number of British bikes ranging from AJS 500's through to Triumph Bonneville 650's. Shortly after I bought my first Jap bike, a second hand CB750K2. Over the years I bought Goldwings, CB70F2's, CB900, GS1000S, TZ350 (Went racing...), VF1000F, Flying Condom (CBR1000F) and the last was the VTR1000F. In total there were about 30 bikes I had bought.
During this time I always poked shit at Harley riders and always thought they rode inferior bikes.
A few years back I went Bucket Racing and had a ball and did pretty well with it.
After 7 years of not riding, I have been suffering with ichy feet and it was time to go again. It first I thought I would buy the BMW 1000SR but thought "Naaaaa, I'm getting older and more wise..."
For the life of me, I started looking at Harley's and in particular the 883 Iron. It has taken me a few months to make the decision, so yesterday I took delivery of my first new Harley Davidson 883 Iron. I was shitting myself as I ordered the bike with Forward Controls and was worried what I'd look like trying to find my feet..... :-)
24 Hours later and I am totally speechless. Even though it is very much Entry Level HD at least it was a cost affective way to fine out what the fuss was all about.
As of now...... I will NEVER ride another Jap bike. These things are awesome and hopefully will upgrade as the years go by. Again.... this thing looks tough, very much throw-back which is what I was after. Suspension is better that some of the Jap bikes I have had in the past.
Totally speechless !!!!!
Pete
Welcome Pete, yeah Harleys do seem to have that effect on people, including myself. While I personally will still own and ride Jap bikes (road/trails) I always have the biggest grin when I jump on my Harley. Enjoy life on your new LOVE.
