Grease - lots of it!

    Hey guys,

I stripped my 98FXD down to the frame, dropped it off at the powder coater last week but got a call this morning that they were having some problems (see attached photo).  It appears that 15 years of steering head grease is stuck inside the triangular piece connected to the gusset of the frame and everytime they've tried to heat it; grease just runs out.

The problem I have is how the fuck do I get the grease out of the frame? There is a 2cm slit inside the steering head that obviously feeds into that part of the frame, there are a few five cent piece sized holes but other than that she's fucking sealed!! I was thinking of hanging it upside down and soaking it in degreaser, however after discuss this with my mechanic he was confident that the degreaser would break the grease down well enouugh to get it out? Maybe hung up and heat it till it runs out but down wanna damage the metal.

I wanna powder it as well, too expensive to wet spray and I'm already 80% there!!

Anyway, opened up to commentary guys - need to get this sorted so I can get the powder guys to finish it off

degreaser and jet wash should be done to all parts before powder coat than sandblast other wise that shit happens ,tand than after it has been powder coated
blow out frame with air as there will be built up sand in it aswell and you don't want that staying in there than getting wet = rusty frame inside out

yes know what you mean max but its only a bad thing if not clean/dry/blowed out thousands of engine parts aka jap heads with very small oil holes get done
    every day in machine shops

engine parts I am ok with you can wash them no problem. Had a bad experience with a chassis blasted with a metal type material that didn't get flushed out, It all rusted together and would break off bits that rattled around, fucking drove me mad.

You are better off getting the frame dipped.. A chrome finishing place should have the bath big enough to fit your frame. They should be able to dip the frame in a hot degreasing bath then onto a acid bath to remove the rust..
