I'm Adam and I've been riding for about 9 months. Been infatuated with Harleys since a kid and used to love the shovels and pans that my uncle would rebuild. Listened to everyone who told me riding was too dangerous for far longer than I should have, but I'm on the right track and two wheels now. Currently riding a VTR250.

Chrome not being my thing, I'm looking to buy an older Iron 883 in a few months time when I get my big boy's license. My only worry is that I'll consider it to be too small or slow after a few months of riding it. Has anyone else had that issue? I guess there is always a 1200 kit...The Nightster just doesn't have the same attraction for me and a Night Rod is both out of the budget and probably not the best bike to jump to from a 250.

I'm considering buying a cheap ten year old Jap 600cc to sit next to the Iron in the garage, so I can choose between a beautiful looking Harley and something that will eat corners, depending on what I feel like at the time.

Until then I'm here to soak up as much pre-purchase knowledge as I can. The government's targeting of anyone on a Harley hasn't put me off buying one a single bit. If anything, it's left me more determined to finally see my dream through. Hope to see you on the roads sometime, safe riding to you.

Welcome to the forum, never let anyone turn you of your dreams it's even harder to live with regrets.  The 883 will be lacking in power but most people always want more once you get used to the power that you have.  If I have any advice buy the bike that you really want.

Welcome mate, my advice is once you have that license in your hand do as many test rides on bikes you think you will like and go from there.

I was in a similar boat to you as i bought my first one 2 months ago coming off the jap crotch rockets and i love the fat bob. Listen to members advice and like i said test ride.
