Hello all,
I am an Australian living in Southern California. I don't currently own a Harley, but I'm looking to buy a 2007-2009 CVO Springer. I should be able to pick one up for between $13-16k.
My father has been riding harleys in Australia since the mid 80s, so I guess I got my love for the bikes from him. I've ridden his 95th FLSTS, and it was good fun, so it's time I picked up my own. I'll be asking the forum some questions about the feasibility of importing this motorcycle into Australia down the track when I come home.
OK, so I've done a bit of research on this forum and through google, and it appears that what I want to do; buy a CVO Springer here in the states, ride it here in the states for a while, and then ship it back home is totally feasible. My questions are around what RAWS and ADR compliance actually means. I have not been able to pinpoint specific differences between the US models and the Australian models that are major. I assume the exhaust, tune, indicators, reflectors, lights, speedo, brake lines, air cleaner and tyres will all have to be at the Australian specification to be compliant. Does anyone have any specific insight into what needs to be changed, or can someone point me to a site that lists these differences? I've tried looking through the government websites, but there doesn't seem to be anything specific.
Assuming that I can work out what these differences are, can I accumulate the parts needed to meet the ADR, and do the work myself and just get it inspected by a RAWS workshop, or does the work have to be completed by a RAWS workshop?
