Iam about to buy my first Harley took the 2014 iron 883 for a test drive loved it ..

the deal offered by the dealer is

    2013 iron 883 -13.5  k drive away

2014 iron 883 -15,995 couple of days waiting for delivery

the only significant  difference is ABS ..so for an iron 883 and I plan to use it regularly ..is ABS a worthy option for cool 2.5 grand more ..

ABS, keyless ignition, and a waiting period for manufacturers to make parts that fit!

Yeah I believe the exhaust is different as well.  I think the new one is a closed loop system.  Just another thing to think of when buying aftermarket exhausts.

On the plus side, the new bike has a gear indicator and tacho like the big twins.

    Hey Mate,

I picked up a 2014 a couple of months ago with Vh short shots (which im waiting for, arriving around mid Jan) SE super tuner and SE air filter and i paid around that price. Cant remember exactly but will check my paper work tonight.

Is that price for a standard bike?

HD speedo/tacho combo (with gear indicator) $380 from the stealer. Cheaper if you ask nicely. Something to consider. And the XR front caliper upgrade only $210, not ABS but beefs things up. I'd be spending the extra couple of grand on a good pipe, intake & tuner. Or a 1200/1250 conversion!

I tried both and found the brakes much better on the 2014, stronger with more feel plus you have the ABS which works well. The 2014 should be $14,990 ride away- for single seat at least. If you are getting a pre 2014 you might as well go second hand- there are plenty of barely run in bikes out there for much less than new....

    Cheers

The readers digest version of my rant:

I've got a different view; ABS is just another way to get a few extra bucks out of the punters...........................................its not new technology, has been available on the HD range for a long time but they're increasing the price by $2500?? Seriously, the Iron was created as an entry level HD; when I bought my mine in NSW I paid an entry level price of $13,450 rideaway. As an example, you think back 15 years ago you could buy entry level cars that had no power steer, no electronic windows, no air conditioning and so on. Now entry level cars have all this, but its reflected in the price. What's actually occurring is they add more into the base range which gives the customer a sense of value and still allows them to differentiate between a entry level and other models, whilst they hike prices year on year and the average consumer isn't getting a great deal anymore, you're actually getting fucked in the bum without even realising it!!

I'm a little cynical about all this stuff; particularly when you start to assess things. ABS is not a $2,500 upgrade from the 2013 model, the parts that fit almost all Sportsters 'may' no longer be interchangeable which allows HD to charge a premium or additional prices for new model accessories......................blah blah blah.

I'd buy the 2013 model, take your $2500 and put it back into the bike and actually get some bang for your buck!!

Raising the price on the Iron may be a result of the new Harley 500 & 750 LAMS bikes coming onto the market.

Also Harley seems to jack up the price of bikes which sell better than other models.
