getting a cam upgrade & conversion to hydraulic tensioners done in about a week but had been planning on cutting this fucker open on next oil change. glad im getting this sorted very soon.
how many klms the bike has done , & what type & grade of oil used, i have 1 fellow has dome 80,000 klm on his stocker but doe's not give her a hard time & most klms are hwy etc but i use in his bike Penrite ENDURO 25/70 w have taken off the cam cover twice for inspections 40000 & @ 60000 still good , but on the other hand this other owners bike has 12000klms on his clock mostly on stock Harley 20/50w oil & his is 1/3 worn out mostly a city bike
I did the SE Cam plate/Hydraulic tensioner upgrade on my 2005 Heritage @ 56,000k's. No sign of any damage to the old tensioners, I've been using HD Syn 3 for every service.
Cheers
thats not real good for 32000klms sorry to see that if used in hot weather i do not think 20/50 w oil is good enough i do not even stock any 20/50 here @ all esp on Dyna 's with there small oil bag under the g/box cops a lot of heat of the box as-well of the tarmac
I did the cam plate upgrade and adjusters at 53000km old adjusters were still good have used 20w50 since new still using it no issues
tensioner upgrade complete & a set of andrews 37's in. sounds very nice & pulls a bit harder too. here is a pic ando took of one of my old tensioners when he did the upgrade for me. some of the stuff i have read says that once they start pitting they really start to break up fast. looks like just in time.
