Sorry, I was talking about using car oils in bikes. Apologies for the lack of clarification.
Short version.
Ill say it again, Any oil is ok if it meets your bikes specs for oil.
Unless you have a lab analysis done on a few oil brands after running it in your engine then, all comment on the better oil, is just bullshit and unverified crap.
The Americans are really bad on this subject cause there swear this oils better than that oil,
Never once do they post analysed results.
Never, so wheres the comparison result.
Just cause oil has more of this or less than that and your opinion is formed on that basis, Again , unsubstanciated rubbish.
Exact same for oil change intervals. Just more crap.
Ill say this, put your tracable and proven test results on oil you use on here, or its just a waste of comment.
Newbies, dont take no notice of the rubbish on this thread unless you like throwing your money away. I dont
I used to work for GM in Europe , many years ago ( Vauuxhall and Opel ) Up until 1985(ish) all new cars had a 500 mile ( 800 k's ) oil change service
This HAD to be carried out to have a valid warranty , which was only 1 year !
1985 onwards this "first oil change service" was deleted due to pressure from Fleet buyers , and the first oil change was 9000 miles or one year
We kept doing the first 500 mile services in our dealerships , only charge to the customers was the oil and filter , often on a "while-u- wait" basis
We used bulk 10W50 Duckhams semi synthetic , which would do diesels as well , a good oil at the time. It was green colour ( no joke !)
Remembering there are a LOT MORE cold starts in Europe than anywhere in Australia
Other dealer chains started to have a DELUGE of warranty claims for camshafts and bearings and we had NONE !
That alone was enough for me to have the servicing regime I use to this day
Again , just my opinion , but all my mates here in Perth WA do it as well
Forgot to add
Oils not rated in the b c and d rating like 25 years ago, Its now rated in L, and Ms now. A vastly diffrerent grade than the B, C, and Ds. Thats brand irrellevant.
Also, crude oil base stocks have different molecular chains from crude oil source, Which means all lubricating oil is produced to a tracable standard to a particular rating. Ones not better than the other. One newer oil released may have improved qualities and hence be issued with a newer letter, but Its the same quality as any other brand producing to that quality or letter. If you think your oils quality is better than another brands oil quality producing oil to the same standard as your oil, Then you know something that the oil industry does not.
Synethic oils are generally sourced from a crude oil base stock anyway. Its engineers just produce a more acurately repeatable test standard on this type of oil. Hence its engineered to a particular standard.
Just sayin
Most synthetic oils are sourced from light end natural gas, Most of which is flared off in days gone by,
Gas is a hydrocarbon, Just the lighter end of the hydrocarbon c chain.
Crude oil is the same thing but is liquide form cause it contains more heavier ends of the c chain.
Might come from caol seam gas now.
My point stands, synthetsics do operate with there molecular chains that are more stable at high temperature, but its cost verses benifit.
Sythetic oil breaks down just as quick as mineral based oil. Hence, same oil change interval.
Point is, wheres the evidence that synthetric oils dont contain hydro carbons.
Syntheticoils use smart marketing. Is it better, Not for a standard car or bike thats used as a daily rider with cost verses benefit.
Proove what I say is rubbish or alternatavly, proove your opinion.
Ill admit im wrong when you put your tracable and verifiable evedince up and ill remove my posts on this thread.
Question stands, put up evidence of why this oils better than that oil for same grade ect, Technical evidence othertwise its all bullshit.
No one has ever given a plausable explanation of which is the better oil and why. I wait, and wait, and wait, still waiting, waiting some more,
fast forward 10 years, waiting, still waiting, 20 years, still waiting waiting,, 30 years, still waiting, 37 years 7 months 2 days 14hrs 34 mins 08 seconds, ooops dead, no more waiting.
Oh well, Doesnt matter anyway, Cars and bikes are electrcally driven with freeway magnetic speed enhancements, But youll still be fined by freeway radar magnetic enhancement detectors that detect that youve modified the manetic field strength of your models magnetic fields. Fines electronically sent to you.
Wont need oil anyway as these cars will have teflon/ silicon based allmost perpetual motion graded bearings.
