Hi guys,
I thought I would start a build thread for my Dyna; haven't ever actually taken a bike back to the frame and started over again so thought I'd bring you blokes along for the journey. So, started today, drained the oil, removed the tins, head light, tail lights, indicators, throttle cables, outer primary case and bang that's where I stopped. I dont have a socket big enough to take the compensator nut off (second photo); off to Supercheap or wherever tomorrow for a few new sockets and back into it tomorrow night.
The plan of attack is as follows:
1. Strip bike to frame
2. Powder frame and swing arm high gloss jet black
3. Engine out and off to be completely rebuilt, will be taking it out to a 88ci; having the heads done, bigger cam, jet kit in the CV, new ignition and 3' belt drive
4. Tins are going to bloke in Victoria who does crazy old school paint jobs, got my style all sorted just a case of shortening the rear fender and reducing the front fender to 13' in total
5. Wheels - keeping the OEM 13 spoke alloys, but they'll be powdered high gloss jet black
6. New bars, risers and braided lines
7. Tuck n roll cobra style seat
8. Dual bates style head lights
9. Shovel indicators front and back
10. Cat's face rear brake light
11. Vintage Shinko on the rear and Avon Speedmaster up front
13. Polish trees and fork sliders
14. Alloy grips and old school bmx pedals for pegs
15. Havent decided on how to relocate my speedo and light console
That's about where I am at currently, got a plan to turn this around in about 6 weeks (fingers crossed)
Wish me luck boys, feel free to take the piss whenever I post the myriad of my fuck ups over the next few weeks!!

Whilst I am grappling with the compensator nut, I turned my attention to the fenders. Cut about 200mm of the rear to give it more of the streetbob style and reduced my front fender by about 150mm at the front and 100mm at the rear. First real crack at cutting radius's with an angle grinder and I am reasonably chuffed with my efforts! The two fenders and tank are going to off to be reprayed this week.
Here are a few pics of the process:
Don't forget that the leading and trailing edges of the guards need to be either rolled or have a wire welded around the radius.
Hi gloss black shows up every nick and scratch.
Compensator nut off - engine over the weekend!
Engine is out
HI all, got her back to the frame today; just need another socket to get the rear mastercylinder from the frame and pull out the cups and we're off to chemical strip and powder coat:
like this ,not near the top though as it is close to the neck have done like this many times ,than after powder coat ,razor blade the excess off inside the neck
put new race,s in freezer for a few hours or over night than knock them in with a soft blow hammer till flush than use a soft drift as daggs said,
or buy the tool what ever is easy for you
I'll be following this one
Waz, all I can say is dont put yourself under too much pressure, dont rush - its not worth it, you'll regret it, you'll be pissed off at yourself and you will have to find the time to undo, fix and do whatever you were busy with
Good luck
lol
dont know how that even done ???
