i hope someone will correct me promptly if im wrong, but dont all imported bikes need to have new tyres fitted reguardless of wether they are near new, or haggard???

I thought all tyres got replaced because the American ones are DOT approved but thats not proven the same as ADR compliant.

if someone can answer that one first i will continue with this

I looked at a grey import being sold by a dealer on behalf of the importer and was told they hads all the fluids, brake pads and tyres changes prior to compliance. Pulled out the oil stick and it was near black and sludgy...never been touched. They couldn't understand why I walked away from a great deal.....

ok  now thats sorted. my question is... how can HD get compliance on the trikes they have imported when they have the same tyres that had to be taken off mine. these tyres are dunlops and have the DOT mark on them.

i checked the compliance sticker and its different from the standard one in that its green, but otherwise simmilar and has the australian mark on it. the sticker also shows the name of the compliancing company and on the HD imports its MAC-ATTACK RENTALS PTY  i have looked this up online but only found a construction equipment company here, and a charterboat company in NZ.  sounds a funny name for someone compliancing for HD..

according to the RAWS  website only QLD imports QLD  and SCORDO VIC are licenced to ADR the tri glide.... so who the hell is MAC-ATTACK, and how do they get away with ADRing a non ADR tyre???

    smells fishy to me

I didn't think that was the case, and if it was, the DOT marking has nothing to do with it .
A mate just bought an imported Victory, and it was registered with the used tyres as shipped.

Edit: looking at the RAWS site, it does mention new tyres have to be fitted.

    "Therein lies the rub"

Good mate of mine has just last week WA licenced his 2008 Anniversary CVO Springer in Perth

Bought from Thunder Tower Harley in Carolina a franchised HD dealer, A fairly clean bike

When we wheeled it out the container the tyres on it were BRAND NEW Harley branded Dunlops , all the wee nipples still present

This was from their showroom , the bike had only been PUSHED since the tyres were fitted !!

After "discussion" with the compliancing RAWS workshop the tyres were changed AGAIN for "Aussie" spec ( WTF!! )

MY MATE HAD TO PAY FOR THE NEW TYRES OVER AND ABOVE COMPLIANCING COSTS

So my mate loaded the "used" tyres into the boot of his car , along with the MPH speedo , Yankee headlight etc etc.

We were told "Canberra" were on the warpath , checking up on compliancing and bikes already passed !!

So he was , quote . " taking no risks or shortcuts " unquote

The tyres in the car boot were EXACTLY THE FUCKING SAME as the new tyres now on the bike !

Some of the importer/retailers in the east were and still are used car importers , therein lies the " dodginess" factor and all that implies

I've posted elsewhere about some of the complete DOGS with " 4,900 K's " that have arrived here in Perth in the last year , LOW k's my arse !!

If you look for harley tyres or harley speedo on Aussie ebay , it's FULL of used tyres and MPH speedos for sale by the same used bike importers , but under an eBay pseudonym

My questions to the OP are : Did you get charged for new tyres ? Were they meant to be in a " roll-up " price ?

If you didn't get charged , and the tyres were " all good " as is , then what's " fishy " ?

I got caught out a2 months ago by ths tyre scam! A mate bought a Softail off an Indie who imports Harleys, - but my mate has no license and the bike is sitting in his garage gathering dust. So he asks me to take it out for a good ride to blowout the cobwebs and silly me says okay - got as far as the first set of lights and the entire front end just goes ut from under me as soon as I hit the brakes.....Long story short; the damn front tyre is absolutley fucked! Its hard as nails and full of micro cracks - ie its got to be OEM.

Damn Indie did not do any of the AU Compliance steps at all! The pisser is that they are 1%ers so his recourse with them is limited.

It shits me!...as I got broken ribs from the crash - all because of someone taking shortcuts.

Mileage / "kilometerage" ?? " But somebody's probably worked out how to reflash them to wipe the memory."

There was last year a bunch of greys in Perth , EVERY single bike on 4,900 Kilometres ???

Coincidence ? I don't think so . ALL from the same Eastern states importer/compliancer

How so ? I don't know , but I "heard" that speedos could be dealer pre-ordered with specified K's to " match" the original miles/K's

Thing is , with US dealers since black banned from posting stuff to Australia , where are all the "new Km/H " speeods coming from ?

MUST be from a "pet" Australian HD dealer ??

As for the " new tyres " thing , yes it is supposedly a MUST HAVE , and prolly fair enough when you read the above post about the hard/cracked OEM tyres.

I had new tyres on my own "grey " CVO Springer , but I had them fitted before compliancing and WA state rego but they were well worn anyways.Bike was mint one owner with 6,300 miles .The fitting was done by me , as I did not want any workshop putting spanners and air tools onto the Springer front end , dozens of chrome bolts etc etc
