Now I seen a news story on monday night about how out of 42 red light and speeding cameras in the Sydney area, only about 6 are working

why ?

well it apears that the state government was told they had to replace these cameras with digitals ones but wouldn't fork out the money ,so now the company that makes the film has stopped making it and that they only have enough film for 6 cameras at a time.

I can't confim this, just was on the news on monday

It is the same story here in Perth.

I went through a red light (in my car - not intentionaly - I was forced to do it) and the camera didn't go off so i enquired with a person I know who knows - you know - and it was confirmed that approximately 1/3 of the red lights cameras are fuly operational ant any given times.

The problem for us is that the authorities activate selected cameras for a short period of time (say 48 hours) and then those cameras get de-activated and the different ones are activated.

So you never know which ones are active and which ones are not.
