Throttle Sensitivity

Posted this on HTT but might get a better response here.

2012 Road Glide, 124" SE 58MM throttle body 5.3gps HPI injectors

One for the guru's I think.  Just to twitchy to enjoy riding on anything but slab freeways. On any sort of bump the throttle responds to the smallest input and not real nice on the roads I am useing to run this thing in on which are more like goat tracks than roads. What can I do to make the inputs less aggressive? If it was a cable throttle I would say it needed a heavier return spring.

It wont be in for a tune for a few weeks yet but it is really making life unpleasant at the moment.
    Tuner is PowerVision
Looking at the "Throttle Blade Control" table has me a bit lost as the left side is RPM but only to 2500, across the top row is Throttle position percent but there are some big jumps like from 5% next is 20%. not even sure this is the area I should be looking towards
    .

    any help is appreciated
    cheers
    Max

I suggest you leave it alone unless you know what your up to. Tuning the FBW bikes is a bit tricky to get the fuelling right under 50MAP. If you quicken up the trottle repsonse it will make it harder for your tuner...

Cheers Lushy, that's about what DynoJet Research tech told me this morning on the phone. His suggestion was have a look at air fuel in the offending area. I made it a touch richer but didn't make a noticeable difference.
I'll just put up with it till Fred can get to it I think.

You are not tuning with throttle %, thats why there are jumps. One tunes that bike by LOAD ie MAP.  :-)

understood, I was hoping to be able to make it a bit less sensitive with out screwing up the map to much. I will keep the current map and have a bit of a play around and see what happens. If it's no better just reload the current map and leave it to Fred.
Only way to learn some times is ask and have a go.
I can do some data logging and see what the area looks like with fuel, spark, throttle %, MAP etc, at the end of the day it only takes less than a minute to reload the current map.

Thanks for the interest and advice

Been out riding and taking more notice of this unpleasant behavior today. It is some what similar to my 106 when I put the SE58 with 5.3 g/s injectors on it.
I am wondering if apart from needing tuning are the injectors part of the issue.
Are 5.3 g/s injectors really needed for a street motor?
Is there a way with Power Vision to log the injector duty cycle?
I would like to get this thing close before Fred starts to tune it.
    Any educated thoughts?

The 58 is giving the engine a big gulp off air with very little throttle so if you want better road manners try a smaller throttle body to tame the harshness down.
I found this after building my engine over 6 years chasing a bottle neck and the throttle body was the problem after installing 51mm from 46mm I got my neck snapped back from hitting a speed bump and was laid up for a couple weeks before getting back on the bike. If I run my bassini 2-1 the bike launches with the lightest throttle and runs very strong through out the rev range but when running to true duals it tames the throttle response down in that area but gives this poping drone through the air cleaner on open throttle that shits me to tears.
Give it time mate you will learn to live with it after a few months and want more

I am going to leave it alone and see how it is after I can get it tuned.
I would be reluctant to change throttle bodies as the top end was all set up and flowed through this body.
we will just wait and see.

    Hi,

Have a talk to Fred at pro cycle dyno slacks creek, he is the best with the Dynojet systems.

He set up my Power vision.

I have heard that Dynojet industries have been trying to get him to move to the USA and work for them.

    Cheers Drac

Know him very well, been using and recommending Fred for a few years now mate, it's booked in for the 12/12/2013
Part of his background is with Serco doing the Dynojet stuff and he has been to them in USA several times. Don't think he will be moving over there but you never know.

    Hi Guys,

Good advice Lushy. Once the full tune is complete the tuner can do the throttle sensitivity adjustment and the transition gear adjustment. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears can have seperate sensitivity adjustment to 4th, 5th and 6th. When this is set up correctly all your issues will be gone. It will actually feel nicer than a cable driven system. The stock throttle spring is already too heavy. I wouldn't go down that path. Explain the symptoms to your tuner so he can keep that in mind while making those adjustments. If Pro Cycle is tuning your bike it will be sweet.

    Cheers Brian.
