Front end clunk - 2008 FatBob

Hoping someone else has had this and solved it. I get a noticible 'clunk' from the front - not sure where - when I ride over driveway lip etc. Next doors cat seems fine so I figure something is loose. Checked and torqued every accessible bolt and nut from the seat to the fender including forks and head assembly. No joy. Doesn't happen under hard brakes.

Is there any hidden gear / sensor etc in the tank or the instrument panel assembly that might be loose? Just one of those annoying little things that bug the shit out of you. Like the cat.

    Thanks for an great forum.

Yep, I had same thing with mine, especially if you hit a pothole or cross railway tracks. Mine weren't Notchy,  just that noticeable feeling that there was some slight bearing movement, even though they had been adjusted up. Had mine replaced back in March this year, no problems since.

    Tank bolts themselves not loose?

Just tighten the head stem up a little and that clears it up.... However in the end it easier to just replace the bearings and races

Headstem doesn't seem to have any movement and the tank bolts are tight. For the cost of bearings I'll nip them up a bit more and then replace them if that doesn't work. Thanks for the quick replies.

Small crack in the wheel can make nice clunks when going over things.

Also check for cracked axle retainer (bottom of fork legs) and loose brake caliper.

If the bike is an import , they have a notorious reputation for doing headstem bearings due to pressure washing before shipping . (Squirting the fuck out of the bearings and getting water in there , in no time they seize and rust up .) Have you jacked the bike up with the front in the air to perform test ?

Yep calipers and fork leg caps all tight. Can see myself pulling the headstem apart I guess. Thanks for the ideas.

Yea tank bolts good. No fork brace and the clamps are tight. fork end caps are good and the bolts tight.

Just a long shot, but my brake pads gave a clunk on a different bike i had from time to time. Rock bike back and forth with front brake on and see If there is any play in them.
