just clicked over 50,000 on my 08 883 sporty and was interested to find out what sort of ks i should get on this engine before going for a 1200 conversion , as i only ride on the weekends  and do big numbers i am very interested in what sort of cams would suit the style of riding i do. as i give my bike a fair bit of stick cams that help in the top range are what i am probably after  but dont really  have a clue any help would be great cheers steve

It all depends on how far you want to go with you 1200 conversion.
All the high lift cams require case clearance (grinding), I think if you managed to get 50,000kms out of an 883 you will be suitably impressed with a 1200/1250 conversion with a 'Bolt In' cam.
Myself if i done it again i'd probably would just do a 90" conversion straight away, or put the $$ towards another bike.

    Cheers

cobar are you referring to cams for your 883 or to suit a 1200 conversion?

A cam upgrade on your 883 isn't worth it for the small gains. Better cams & headwork on a 1200/1250 conversion however...

what does a 90 conversion mean, and if i buy the 1200 kit could they bore it out to 1250 is that what they would do to give it more grunt , i am all new to this thanks for the help much appreciated

Hey 5lt are you looking at 1200-1250 dyno's with hammer stuff cause most of them are even doin better results....of course it alway's comes down to money spent. But if you spend it wisely on conponments that work 2together the end result can be hugely different.

Yep Hammer definitely are the way to go. If you do go all out with the heads, Don't expect to get them real quick, I waited 2-3 months (cant remember exactly) they had something like 30 sets in-front of mine...

Just get in contact with them sales@hammer they will bend over backwards to ensure you get everything you want and wont sell you a combination that will be shit.

It all comes down to budget really.

Yeah Hammer in their busy season now (winter), I got my heads done during their summer & had them back on my doorstep within a month.

Great friendly service from the guys at Hammer & they really know their shit. They were the technical back-bone of NRHS before the split.

    Slap.

another vote for hammer here great service and advice.
my heads did take a while to get done aswell.
I done a mates nightster a few months back just 1250 kit with 560 cams (bolt in).
its like night and day he is running down new twinkies 103c.i they are getting the shits with being beaten by a girls bike.
none of them will even try to run me after spanking one of them that bad.

im running 600 cams, 1250 kit, crush 1200 heads, hammer pushrods, patriot pipe, barnett clutch and powervision tuner.

    stock 1200 heads.
he regrets not doing them aswell because now he would need different pistons.
im even surprised how well it goes.
his stock clutch is now slipping so that's next on the list.

I'm not sure about the new 883 as they say you have to change barrels to go 1200, but old 883 had very thick cylinder linners very strong & held its round sealed good.

daddyracer56 raced 883 with cams think head work too they were fast, peter that was incharge of keeping them going & tunned for Frazers race team said they reved them to 8,000 & saw speeds of 240kph at eastern creek raceway. a few went down quarter mile in low 11's.

09 and later cant be bored to 1200.
I done 1200 conversion on my bike before I went to hammer, it cost me about $600 to machine and new pistons etc not worth it.

Forget about dyno numbers go to the track see what times & speeds look like. in most cases when a sporty makes bulk HP & TQ the rider can't use all of it. unless they are an outstanding rider.

i like what i've seen of the hammer 1250, but not because it has 50cc more thats bugger all over a 1200 1200 = 74cid 1250 =77cid, the reason i like the hammer 1250 is the thick cyclinder linner will seal better.

i like the combussion champers he uses too & pistons chamber combo's . but dyno's good to sort your tune if you get a good tunner operating the dyno. but then you have to take into account bike & rider weight,

so would be good to get to the track one day match them all.

a mate has a 1200 s1 buell ( 1997 ) runs very low 11's think 11.2 & 121mph but the bike is stock wheelbase & no wheelie bar those s1 Buells bloody short so hard to get out the hole without wheel standing or flipping back. so get to track see what they do
