Started pricing a trip to Tassie, Shazz wanted a private cabin over and back winkkiss so with the cabin and the bike I am up for $849.00 return for a 3 day weekend. Anyone had better deals?

That seems pretty reasonable...my mate went over earlier this year to visit his kids and I was surprised at how much it cost to catch the boat over...great place Tassie.

Yeah went there years ago by accident! We were gunna do the Great Ocean Rd but someone said there was 5000 pushbikes gunna be there at the same time. Turns out they were only going over the Westgate bridge. Anyway at the last minute we booked the boat for 4 of us in a shared room. We were told not to book accom in Hobart, ha everything was booked out. Managed to find a little B&B for the night, even scored a hire car (pissing with rain) from the car yard over the road. All in all a top albeit very fast weekend. (GSX 1100 and a broken speedo)  Have to keep an eye out for deals or talk the mrs into the deck chairs!

Burnzie my wife and I done that trip a few years ago... Mate we paid the same price then... My advice plan the date you want to go and then leave it till the last minute to book. We initially were quoted 1200 for a return trip with the deluxe cabin... Left it till later and paid 880 with the bike and trailer... The cabin is very good, free bottle of wine, onsuite, robes etc... The only issue is we they wake you up at 5.00am to get off at between 6-7 am..

On the boat the food sucks but hey it is a holiday. As far as Tsssie goes... well say no more, the roads, just the roads.... and scenery. Great place... Burnzie take Shazza and make the most of it..

3 days,???? what a waste.. make a trip and go round the island... we had 2 weeks from Adelaide to Adelaide... great trip.. great state...

Do it mate you wont regret it..

Only other option for the boat is to see if they are doing day sailings when you want to travel

We toured Tassie in 2011, paid around $800 for an internal cabin with the 2 bikes, its a bit expensive but that is what you have to pay to go on the ferry, also having to get up at 5.00am then wait for your call to go down and get the bikes off the ship is a bit of a hassle. Also on our trip the weather was rougn and there were big seas the girl did get sea sick and everyone walking down the corridors were hitting each side as they tried to walk in a straight line, was quiet funny.

Noticed that Tassie is very expensive for accomadation, also very remote in certain areas so be carefull not to have an accident. Also watch out for the posted speed signs on corners as they are way out, if its states 80k in a corner you will probably have to do 60k in some of the corners as they dont see the sunlight and can be very slippery with moss and debri which is thrown on to the roads by the logging trucks.

Make sure you go to Derwent Bridge Gallery and see the wood carvings, the guy is a master wood carvery and he is doing a massive carving on this wall deplicting the history of Tasmania.

All in all a nice place to visit, I have ridden the bike around Tassie on 2 trips now but that is enough for me, overseas holiday to the USA are much more affordable and better value.

Enjoy your trip and be carefull on those roads, they have lots of sport bike riders down there who go crazy, motorcyclists die on those roads every week.

Burnzi about the best you can do with a two bed cabin (no porthole) is $822 (that includes the bike of course) return. (Oh they have there own shitter and shower.)

$486 on day trip but then you loose two days, that sucks.

There are the recliners for $546, but I gotta say you need to be a good sleeper and be able to put up with a lot of shit from the others using the recliners, you can get agro real quick with some of the fuckwits.

On the boat grog prices are not to bad, food prices also not to bad, it's not fantastic on the palet but it's not to bad either.

Being in Tassie I've been on the boats quit a few times and never had any issues in fact I enjoy the trips as do most who sail on them, hope you can find a deal you like because you will enjoy riding around Tas (as long as it isn't to cold) cheers bloke.

Thanx for all the tips guys, I have been before as I said but it was a long time ago and I think about $560 in a 4 berth. Really want to go and do Elephant Pass again (on a real bike hahaha) and would love to do the road from Queenstown down to Hobart (weather?) Roads and scenery were stunning last time so yes I would love to show Shazz around Tassie (now there's an opening for some comments) Might have to bite the bullet and set it in place. Also thinking abiut doing 5 days as there is so much to see that I left off the original itinerary. Hey Bahl will look you up while there.

A weekend isn't enough to see Tassie, especially if it's Shazz's first time. How about 2 or 3 weeks instead? Oh and I'd try go during summer months, as it's too bloody cold otherwise. The wife and I spent 9 days honeymooning there 5 years ago, this December, and that was nowhere near long enough. My mum and I have friends living at Bridgewater, and Glengarry, who I'd love to get the chance to visit again one day. The Western Tiers is one road i'd definitely recommend going on. It took us about 7 hours to get from Hobart to Cradle Mountain via that route though, but definitely worth the extra couple hours travel time.

The Castle Hotel , Bothwell , there is pics of it online , reasonably cheap good pub rooms , separate shower room , can't remember the owners name now but a good fella , from memory he had a Philippine wife and cook that hit it off well with me Thai missus , went out of their way to make us feel welcome and seen us off in the morning too , interesting memorabilia in the old pub , only a few people there but pretty social , a fella pulled in on an old shovel , the local town drunk fella was great value , entertaining and a wealth of knowledge on the Islands history , footy and fishing !
Really enjoyed Tassie , can't wait to spend more time down there !
    Cheers

I live in Tasmania, cheapest way is day sailing, other than deck chair (uncomfortable ) the deck chair means you can find a lounge sweet in bar area and crash there but they have day sailing in summer so no need to sleep only problem is you lose a day instead of sleeping over , bloody expensive stretch of water
    Cheers
