We have been taking deposits at my dealership for a few months now. We have been told by HD that they will land Feb 2015
Was talking to my dealer about them yesterday, we agreed if they're delayed much more they might just skip the 2015 model year and go straight to 2016.
In Morgan and Wackers yesterday and had a bo peep at a 500 they had on the floor.
I reckon they looked pretty good as in they looked more than a 500 to me.
The sales bloke told me folk are modifiying them to 900s.
Im presuming he ment in America.
I suppose where theres a will theres a way.
He He A learners approved bike thats actually a 900 with a 500 badge on it.
Be interesting to know the power to weight ratio on a 500 taken out to a 900.
Hi All,
I have just finished testing the Street 500.
The Initial test ride was better than I expected after reading some other reveiws. It felt light, nimble and so very easy to ride. For the market it is aimed for it is perfect. BUT It had a slight vibration tingle through the bars and pegs. In standard form it was a bit under powered though.( as you would expect from a LAMS bike). The intake and exhaust were very restrictive. The Dyno testing showed that aswell. 32 HP @7750rpm and peak torque 28 ft-lbs @ 4,000rpm.
We sorted out the stock air box. Added a K&N air filter. Fitted a Slip on muffler. Then we loaded a Power Vision Licence key for the tuning.
It responded to the Full Custom Advance Map / Dyno tune the same way as any other Harley. We made some good gains with the Fuel map and it responded to the new timing map very well. We needed to up the rev limit because it was still making power at the std limit.
The final HP was 39.5 @ 8,400 rpm and the torque went up to 32.3 @ 4,000rpm. Around a 24% power gain without touching the engine is always nice to have. Not high figures by the larger bike standards but on the final test ride the bike felt very different. The power was much stronger throughout the whole rev range. Pulled allot harder through the gears and the power delivery was much smoother. The light tingle vibration through the bars and pegs was completly gone. The better throttle response was very noticable especially when you blip the throttle while down shifting gears .
Overall a great bike for the learner or city commuter. I have really enjoyed the bike and feel they will have a good strong place in the market for a long time.
Cheers,
Brian.
Have a little issue with my parteners 500.. after a ride she parks up the bike then 1/2hr later goes to start the bike and it self revs real high to the point of making people turn and look... this high ide speed last for about 5secs then returns back to normal idle.
Did a test again the other day went for a ride then parked up the bike for 2hrs and started it with no problem.
Got me thinking maybe the computer is trying to do a cold start on a already hot motor thus making it idle high..
anyone else have this issue
Thanks will do
Well guys n dolls....some feedback on the 500 Street. I've been riding bikes for 40 years (yeah I'm an old fart) and have pretty much owned EVERYTHING! Started on a 750 Bonny (Triumph Bonneville to you new pups) had a Norton Commando, all the jap bike (Honda 750 K four / Tripple Z Kawwa / 1100 RC) and about twenty others before the switch 20 years ago to Harley. So, after some to Harley's I currenty own 3. Just recenty bought the wife a Street. Wow, great little bike. Put on Vance n H slip on (great throaty sound) and the Cafe Solo seat. She runs real well and even when I get of my Road KIng enjoy the little run around. I use it sometimes in the traffic .....excellent for that. My wife can (and does) ride my Forty Eight, but feels much more at home on the Street. So far, so good, we love it. cheers P
Put a set of YSS shocks on my wife's Street 500 and she says far better than the stock shocks.
Yes, she did want purple springs.
