Hi guys , got a new project under way ... A 99 Springer that is going to have a bit of the Bobber / Chopper look .
Unlike a lot of you talented people out there i don`t have the fabrication skills to get the look i am after so most of the Fab work is being done by a guy called Shane Cooper up here in Sth East Qld ... he has a shop called Speed Demons ... i will be trying to get my hands dirty with different aspects of the build and i can live with the fact that while i haven`t actualy built the majority of the bike a Big Chunk of the idears for the bike have come out of my mind with Shane guiding me with his expertise .
Of course All the Bills are mine ... couldn`t seem to share that part of the build , Lol ... Anyhow just a few for starters , with more to come and while the finished project is more or less set i`m allways interested to hear other peoples opinions / idears / and even put downs ... Tim .
SORRY FOR BLURRED PIC ... Ready for strip back .
A LITTLE CLEARER .
No Tins and rear horns removed .
Original swingarm removed and will be replaced with slightly latter item that will give me more ability to fit the 180 rear tyre with of course the belt being changed to latter skinnyer model as well as a offset on the primary to achieve the 180 goal ... Mustang sprung solo seat ... no rear pegs or seat for this baby ... my 2008 TC will be covering the duties of doubling the missus .
The cut off Horns all cleaned up and painted ... Shane does a nice job , if you look closely at above pics you can see where he has had to fill in gaps from where horns had been removed and now look nice and smooth and like they were that way from the beginning .
My new 19" front that will be carrying a 120 tyre ... Genuine HD off a late model Street Bob
Bit of a rough mock up with the 180 rear tyre and the 3.5 Gallon Fat Bob Tanks i am going to be running ... was extremely close to going with the small peanut tank but as i am not a small human being , the 3.5 tanks gives the bike a bit of substance to match my size ... and will be doing the occassional longer ride so the extra fuel will come in handy .
The pic below is something how mine might end up looking ... this is another bike built by Shane ... mine will have different pipes ... wheels ... bars ... and of course different paint scheme but gives you a idea as to the style i am going for ... for now thats it ... just have to hope Crazy Cambel Hitler dosen`t get to much more out of control and ban bikes alltogether ... Cheers all ... Tim .
Thanks man ... it`s a real buzz at the moment , even with all this Newman Hitler shit going on ... got a couple of more pics today .
The original 99 single piston rear brake caliper didn`t line up / fit the latter model swingarm so have gone with a latter 4 piston caliper ... better braking as a result .
Rear wheel and guard on for mock up ... making sure everything fits ... looks sweet , i am really starting to dig the whole blacked out style ... anyone who has seen any of my 2008 TC pics will notice that i favour a little bit of chrome , Lol ... was a bit nervous at first when going the blacked out way but wanted something different and am really getting into it as it comes together ... The guard is a 9" wide one ... Shane is going to take out about 20 mm from the middle to bring the guard in nice and close to the tyre ... will be going with a Tombstone rear tail light and a Frenched in rear numdr plate .
Another side view with seat in postion ... still a couple of months to go before on the road ... have to pace myself , Lol .
The 1960 Arrow Head badges i am going with ... i know there will be a lot of purist who will not like the idea of mismatching badge years but i have never said i am building a original 1960`s Bobber / Chopper ... there are other reasons for that particular vintage badge ... it matchs my birth year , yep 53 this year and still having fun with bike projects , Lol ... as well as that reason i reckon it will contrast well with the Flat Black Ol School paint scheme i have in mind for her and there will most likely be a smidgin of Red and White Ol School Pinstriping ... that`s it for now folks ... Tim .
Couple of more pics to add ... SJM the rear guard was a Kustomwerks 9" wide that needs a little width taken out ... it came via Wild Card Fenders and Motor parts out of North Carolina .
Excuse pic quality ... wont be every ones cup of tea for pipe choice but there is something about these that just grabs me ... at least i shouldn`t have a scrapping issue ... { unless i drop it of course , God forbid , Lol } ... Freedoms " Americain Outlaws 2 into 1 " ... love the contrast cut outs on the end piece ... came in from M & M cycles , Ohio ... dam site cheaper than anywhere here sadly , even after shipping cost .
Sitting Loosely on bike to get a look , with Shane`s arm , shop owner and Master Builder holding bars at rough position to where they will end up .
Bars are 1" and a 1/2" Bully Bars from Gworks down in Victoria , Geelong i think ... bit like some of the Burliegh Bars except these only have just over a 1" riser built in and beautifull smooth bends ... the beauty of these is the bends out from the risers are closer together than most simurlar bars and suit the Springer front ends being thinner in width as oppossed to say a wide glide front end ... well in my opinion any how ... the plate the bars are attached to are a after market set up that lets one have a far greater range of bars to choose from as they have the same bolt location as most Softail models as oppossed to standard Springer top plate .
It`s coming along ... lots of little details are being sorted ... the Dakota all purpose Speedo / Trip metre / Indicator gauge turned up the other day , nice and small so Shane can fabricate a nice low dash for it and other little lights to keep the top of tank as stream lined as possible .
That`s it for now ... fingers crossed for a Xmas good time but more than likely in the New Year ... Cheers folks ... Tim .
nice work mate keep the pics coming.
looking good Tim I would have too say never been a lover of the single pipe ,but that one has made me look more than 4 times at it she will be scraping the pegs now lol
There`s going to be a bit of a burble coming out of that Hole ... Ye Ha .
The Led Tombstone taillight ... have to add a red film to lense to apease the lovely boys in blue .
Gives ya a scale as to the size of the taillight ... absolutly love the red in the badge ... has that rich shiny enamel look to it .
180 Rear wheel in ... dead center .
Side view with latter model pully and 20 mm belt .
9" guard with small piece cut out to fit snugly between rear frame and swingarm ... thought it looked a little wierd at first until i realised the bottom right hand side is the cut out for belt ... lucky for me Shane knowns what he is doing , Lol .
How it was going to sit with heaps of rear tyre showing ...
Allthough i loved the idea of the guard where it was ... with the plate and light going roughly as pictured Shane and i both felt it could cause some grieve with the officals up this way so have decided to move guard around slightly so plate and light can be seen more easily ... one of the small compromises made with a project like this .
New bottom piece welded in and looks like it was always there ... well it will when painted .
Should have posted this pic before above one where the bottom piece was welded in ... but i think you can get the idea as to where it is going to sit now ... proberbly has come around about 4 to 5 inchs ... not the final Rotor though ... new shiny one coming .
More or less the final postion , with frenched in Number plate ... thats a mock up plate , not mine , Lol .
Could have gone this way as Shane has done quite a few of his builds this way ... would have solved the issue of looking more directly at light and plate but just wanted the cleaner look of the Frenched in plate and clean line of nothing at bottom of guard .
My front wheel with new Rotor ... rear will be the same ... uummm Shiny ... funny , didn`t realise how much they resembled my rotors on my 2008 Softail ... the subconcious having it`s way with me .
Untill next time fella`s ... Tim .
Carl at Gasolina here in Melb makes a cool Number Plate frame the he uses with that fender
