Hey guys,
I recently bought a 98 FXDL; rode her to Mudgee last weekend and she now has an oil leak that looks like its coming from the the split between the crankcase. Having said that, I haven't really had a great look just stuck a piece of cardboard under the drip and have kept moving. Did a little research on this and it appears to be a reasonably common leak with EVOs; something to do with a leaking basket. Either way, I plan to take a proper look over the weekend and will work out exactly where its coming from.
What I would like some assistance on is how do I go about freshening up the old girl? I have been hunting round the net and found a bunch of bolt on 85ci kits for around $1000 delivered, but cant imagine it would be that expensive to have my own jugs bored and replace the pistons and rings her in Aus? This is my first rodeo with respect to these types of engines and associated mods, so really keen to understand, from any of you long term EVO owners, what's the best way to return her to her former glory and get a little bit more HP without going over the top.
I was thinking something along the lines of this:
1. 85ci upgrade
2. Cam
3. SE heads
4. SE Dyno tune kit for the CV
5. New Pushrods
6 Crane ignition and SE coil
7. Dyno tune
With the exception of the jugs/pistons I am pretty confident where I source everyting else, but does anyone know anyone in Sydney where I can chat about honing my existing cylinders and purchashing pistons, rings etc?
Cheers
Waz
