Well I dont mind admitting I got no idea with this one.

The pic is square on and as you can see it dont line up. Needs to move forward and down but the primary is in the way.

    What am I missing????????

    cheers

At a guess, the inner primary needs to be removed ? or you have the wrong parts !
Tell us what you actually doing ?

If you're trying to replace the rotor, then a bit of grinding along the lower front of the inner primary cover will do the trick. I'll try and attach a couple of photos of the grinding I had to do when I did my engine swap. Only needs metel removed as per pics. - Rob

thing is all that's changed is the actual motor. same primary and same stator and rotor.
All the holes line up in the primary to motor so no change in position to the cases.
Cannot believe the crank is positioned differently in these either.
I do recall it was an effort to get it off but I thought it was just tight on the splines, maybe it was tight on the case. HOW THE FUCK DID THEY GET IT ON AT THE FACTORY???? Big HAMMER

Yeah ozy, it was a prick to remove the old one (stock oem rotor). Can't remember if I measured the stock rotor OD to see if the rotor that came with the SE compensator was bigger. - Rob

well I will admit it here for all to see. What a dick head I would be. Just put the prick on before the primary goes on and no dramas at all.
Fortunately that's all I had to remove.

thanks for all the tips anyway and the fast reply. I am having no luck putting this thing together at all. Nice to know there are you good people around to help out when needed.

you can loosen the inner primary bolts, but grinding is the way to go.

maybe in the factory they tighten the inner primary bolts after fitting the rotor??

the only bolts behind it are the 4 stator screws.
    I
'm betting it goes on before the primary in the factory and when the dealers replace it they also pull the primary housing

early shovel & evo untill1988 or 92 had to remove the inner primary to replace the stator you can see the extra lump on the front pri cover  that was the same size as the rotor so you can remove it, don't tell me these later models have gone back to that  as the stator is allways likley too  failing ,  now a bitch to remove just like back when, shit idea
