Clear Rear Protective Film

    Hi All,

I have my shiny new paint, and I am about to go on a ride for the weekend where I need my rear seat to put my bag on, and so I went and got that clear protective film from the Dealer. One problem is, it's shit to put on.  Finger prints everywhere!!  It's on - so the rear seat will not scratch the rear fender, but I ride solo most of the time, and I don't want this ugly clear shit across the back of the fender!!

    Any ideas??

    Cheers

get another one and try again. you need to use lots of water when putting it on and gently squeegee it out as you go. Then leave it in the sun for a day.
Yes it is an absolute prick to get right, it took me 3 of the fuckers

Get another piece and take that one off. Before reapplying make sure hands are clean. Spray the area where you are going to apply the tape with soapy water. This will let you put the tape  on and move it to the correct position. Squeegee the water out from under it with a bog applicator or even a ciggie packet. When most of the moisture is out from under it, use a hair dryer to dry it out or sit it out in the sun. Will still look like a clear sticker on the Guard but at least it will look like a clean sticker not a finger print tape. Most importantly, drink beer during entire process

Ahhhh Shit!! Didn't think of soapy fucking water!! FUUUCK!!!

There was no fucking instructions - just a sheet of sticky shit - AND - it does not look like the right one anyway.

I had to order it, so will order another one. This will get me by for this weekend - There goes another $30. LOL!

Hey Mongrel , what about one of those Leather rear fender protectors ... I had the same problem as you , figured when the missus is on then seat will cover it but like your self I ride solo half the time so have one from Mustang that goes well with Mustang solo seat .

Is there a time limit before peeling one of these clear stickers off ... had mine on now for about 6 or 7 weeks ... have I left it to long or should I be able to do the same and get another one and use the soapy water solution .

Yeah - It's a pain in the arse TJ! I ride solo most of the time 95% and love the look of the exposed guard. BUT... times like now when I want to go away and I need the seat on for my large bag, it's fucked!!

I will leave this one on for now - it will get me through this weekend - not sure what to do after that.

The problem is - even a microfibre cloth under the seat will scratch. It's the rubbing affect, and the small grit between the cloth and the guard WILL leave a mark. Hence why the stick on works as it does not move.

What we need is one of those clear stick ons, but one that can be easily removed and stored when you don't need it!

Has anybody tried clear contact adhesive, you know like the shit mum used to cover our school books with? It would be easier to get hold of and a damn site cheaper.
