Looked at that option Norm . Worried I,d lose the watertightness , the room inside the pannier , and the sound going behind me at speed . These '14 lowers are designed for 6 1/2 " speakers . Can hear music at 160 . The lowers , although primarily bought as speaker boxes , offer good wind protection .

Had 40,000km service done during the week , and it clicked to that magical number today . Most kms I,ve put on a bike , bring on more kms . Averaging 20,000 km per year , no commuting .

Well , how quickly things change/happen ! At 45k I could hear a ticking noise from motor , thought was just lifters . Didn,t go away , wasn,t there all the time , came in "waves " , and could be throttle induced . Took it to dealer to have a look/listen/ride . Mechanic thought it was lifters . Lifters replaced , less noise , but still there . They then checked compensator , that was ok . They then thought piston slap , and pulled top end off to discover bores and piston skirts badly scored . Checked crank , and thats the problem . I think bearings must have gone , but am unsure at the moment .

Harley Aust have come to the party , and are replacing crank , oil pump , pistons , and barrells . Hopefully done before Chrissie .

Gee Tim,, Its not what you want to hear,,, The good news is your warranty is going to cover most of the work ..... Mate, you probably want to get things fixed up as soon as possible, and before Xmas etc,, but ,, seeing you have the opportunity , and for not a lot of coin, (while there in there), what about a mild set of torque cams to spice her up,,, a set of se204's come to mind !!!!! Good luck with the repairs , and whatever you do ... Cheers ....

Bike will be 3yrs old this Jan , so out of warranty as such . Though Australia has laws that help us as consumers , " fit for pupose " I think it is . Harley would be well aware of these laws .

Have had dealer recorded service for life of bike whilst under warranty , and that was all checked .

Not in a financial position to have upgrades done at this stage , though crank will be checked and trued before installation .

Hi Tim. Sorry you've had the dramas with the bike. I'm glad you have it back now. The whole family will be relieved. Get out there and ride now. Cheers

So 60,000 kms and another set of tyres , that's 3 sets @ 20,000 kms ea . Full set of brake pads , rear were nearly shot , still more in front left , but changed full set . Discs still OK , may need to change next time ( 120,000kms good for discs ! ) . Brake fluid flushed , front and rear . Pretty good for near 4yrs . Have used replacement Harley Dunlops each time , 2015 $480- pr fitted , 2016 $515- pr fitted , 2017 $520- pr fitted .

Dyno today , has been running very rich since rebuild. Got AFR correct for light throttle opening ( read cruising at 110km/h ) . Seat of the pants , I thought about 90 ft lbs, but is an honest 100 , happy with that . Nice dyno chart , using a Screaming Eagle map , for 1690 stage 2 with 259 cams and full SE system . No map for 204 cams , but tuner ( my mate ) was happy with what he saw re AFR's on said map . Stock pistons , heads , and throttle body . 204SE cams , V&H Power Duals , SE stage 1 air cleaner .
