I was booked at brissy for having bars over 900mm wide and being a certain height above the seat...... my bars are 900 mm wide closest edge and height above the seat?? I have never heard this before cause I though u could have whatever size riser u wanted aslong as ya bars were under 12 inch, plus the vance n hinse pipes, worth going to court, or do the fine points and swap the lot????

No more than 380mm from lowest point of handgrip to the lowest point on the top of the seat

and also no more than 380mm from lowest point of handgrip to top of triple tree

    And less than 900mm wide.

This is in SA. Thing is my std factory bars didn't meet the 1st two criteria !!

Unless things have changed defect notices aren't infringements or court attendance notices. They require you to address the issue/s and have a rw test to demonstrate defects are addressed. So going to court or pleading not guilty has nothing to do with it. If they make you go thru the pits for your test it will be very thorough

Cheers lurker for the info, I think a legal section would be good. Would clue us all up on some feedback to the under-knowledged boys in blue.

In NSW the handlebars must not exceed 380mm from the top of the lowest part of the seat to the lowest part of the handlebar...

Can be no less that 500mm and no more than 900mm in width...

That is for bikes built after June 30,1988..

I've said it before and I'll say it again: sound adjustable exhausts are the way to go. Very happy with my patriot defender exhaust.

A couple of years ago I was down in n.s.w for work for six months and I took my at the time FXSTC out for a ride from where I was living to Newcastle.

As I rode into the first town I got to I look into my rearview mirror to see flashing lights so I pull over and I asked the highway patrol officer what the problem was to which I was told you haven't done any thing wrong just a routine stop.

He then inspected my helmet and wrote me out a defect for my pipes saying that N.S.W EPA states that being after market pipes on the bike than they have to be stationary noise tested ( they were Rhinehart Switchbacks and yes they failed) so standed pipes were put on the bike to pass and were left on till I came back to QLD because if I got caught again then I lost the bike.

I also found out later that the highway patrol officer hates harley riders and pulls up every one that he comes across regardless so all you NSW fellas dont go towards Tamworth from Newcastle in case he's still there.

I didn't get a fine for the pipes.

I thought I'd heard that he'd moved on but maybe not. I was just up in Singleton a few weeks ago. Lucky escape I suppose!
