not an easy question to answer. depends on bike, riding style, road surfaces in your area, etc etc.

    more info required.

Like Sida says DJ, anywhere between 6 and 20 K's, depending upon the tyre and the way it's riden.

Reckon you'll get about 12K on ya new one.

    gooday gents,

im an old bloke, and never even tried a burnout on a Harley. leave that to the yougins. lol.

I ride pretty sedately all the time. rarely exceed the speed limits due to cops everywhere these days. I guess the only wear factor could be I rarely ride on a straight road due to where I live. close to the ocean road so every ride has plenty of twisties. mind you I don't even ride those hard these days especially on the Harleys. so in answer to your questions, no idea. ive always ran Dunlop 401 whitewalls as per factory fitment. the alignment seems ok but could have been out a tad on both bikes but never enough to notice re tracking. I do have saddlebags fitted and have wet weather gear, a few tools etc on board and half the time the mrs hanging off the rear too, but like you say, whats with only 5k. I did bout 200k on the old ultra and this roadking about 50k and same wear on both machines. . I always took it as normal till I saw what some blokes on here get, like 20k from some tourers. find me the answer and ill buy ya's a slab lol.

    cheers cactus

always run around 40psi. have compressor and full workshop at home so maintaining stuff has never been a worry. maybe ive had 300 faulty tyres? (note humour) best ive ever got was 7k to the skin. maybe relevant, im around 105kg. maybe those high milage tyres have little blokes riding em.

Yeah same. I'm pushing 130kgs (pure muscle just ask ill tell ya) with Tigger and his bit more than stock mumbo. On 8k now and not even half down. 40 psi sounds right though, so stuffed if i know. Are you a heavy rear brake user when stopping? What wearing first, the middle or sides? I would try a different tyre this time and see what you get. Just throwing some maybe's out there.........

pretty stupid question really as everyone rides different, just ride it until you need to change, simple.

Yeah wearing through at 5k definitely sounds like something is amiss there hey , the road surface in your regular riding area may account for some heavy wear on that actual make/compound of tyre , but possibly a combination of that and a slight alignment issue adding too it , my '09 roadie has the late chassis and stocka Dunlop 408s , I'm 140kg and ride with same gear in the panniers and monkey on the back and only managed to wear through the centre of the rears carcass right on 20k with the sides and also the front still looking half ok , although most of my favoured runs are laden with twisties ya do tend to spend most of ya time riding straight up on a multitude of surfaces , me heritage softie was good for 13-15k on its rear 402?
    Cheers

might be time to try a different brand. the old ultra I had used to feather the front tyres marginally so I would have put down the excessive wear on the rear to alignment but the current roadie, 99 model, no abnormal wear at either end. but in 50k ive averaged a rear every 5 to 6 and that's to the wear indicators, and 10ish on the front. I don't consider myself to be an aggressive rider by a long shot but maybe the road surface could have something to do with it...great ocean road would cover 80% of my miles. ill go through some history in here to see what tyres I might try next. thanks for the advise from all and hopefully the original poster will see its a varied science. not a written rule of wear.
