hi all iv had my new fatboy flstf only a month now, had it back to the shop for them to listen at the ping (when hot ),they took it for  a ride and say that it nothing 3rd tank of premium fuel in and it is still doing iy .SOback to the shop it goes again.....

 

any recomendations and advice , i know thist is not normal ive been around moto x bikes and harleys all my life>>>

It should not be pinging,especially with Premium fuel, the problem is that if it is still under warranty then you are limited on the fixes. They are just fobbing you off.

Having said all that, what brand fuel? Have you tried a different fuel station and brand? I know some blokes won't put certain fuels in their bikes because they have trouble with that brand etc

Once it loosens up a bit the pinging may reduce...I'd also second the changing fuels for a trial...I've had nine new HD's over the last 20 years and some of the later ones carried on shocking during run in then settled down, especially the 103's. They can run hot, especially after a trot up the freeway and then dropping back to traffic lights and slow speeds. Mine would ping like crazy in some circumstances and not in others..If you're leaving it close to stock, drop some night riders in to rich it up a bit will also help.

sorry to hijack thread for a moment. dynoharley, gooday mate. do you have equiptment there to remap ? I have a 99 evo with factory ecu and after a backfire on cranking, now have smoke from front cylinder at idle. not all black, ie rich but not all oil it appears.

Mine pinged badly 2 up riding until had PC5 installed and dyno tuned . No pinging now and best money spent on bike .

bike is stock standard.

Does TTS data log Knock events?

mongrel hook up the TTS go for a ride and see if it records any knock events, You don't always hear it when it's knocking (pinging)

Man - They need to get TTS working on an iPad! It's a pain the arse to get the laptop out there.
