Hi guys, I'm looking at dropping the old oils soon and I don't have a wkshop manual for my bike. Just wondering where the drain & filler plugs are located. I'm at work at the moment so can't take a look at the bike as it's at home. I've already purchased the new oil, & need to also know the amount needed for each. Cheers for your help.

Mate the oil drain plug is located on the right hand side of the bike under the oil tanks. just where the rear swing arm meets the frame. 3 Qrts by memory. I usually put in enough to safelt start the bike and let it warm up. Check on the side stand at Operating Temp and then top up to the required level.

Do not attempt to remove the allen keyed plug under the engine sump. It is held in by Red Loctite and removal may damage the cases by cracking.

The primary Drive drain plug is at the bottom of the clutch housing on the left hand side. 1 Qrt primary chain case oil, Type F Auto Trans Oil, or engine oil that does ot have friction modifiers in it. Best Check

The transmission drain plug is located between the rear shock absorbers central. Once you have drained the trans it will be easier to put the plug back in by having the bike sitting upright.

All plugs have an o'ring around them. Check that it is not damaged.

Trans oil 1 Qrt or 975ml best check

Ash I sent you a link to the manual for your bike. Have that on you computer and just look at the pages when you require to do work.

Also have a look on google for oil changes.. There are plenty of videos with the required info.

Thanks for the link AJ, that would have made it a bit easier the other week. Very well written for people like me.

Along with the o'rings i usually use a little bit of thread sealer on the drain plugs.

Cheers for your help AJ. I'm pretty comfortable doing engine oil changes now. I've done two now. I was a bit worried after the last one, as I noticed a small piece if metal about 2 1/2 to 3mm long and about 1/2 a mm in diameter, and other very minute particles in the drain pan after I emptied the old oil into my collection drum. Will keep an eye on it when it's next due for another service. Hopefully there has been no engine damage.

P.s, I have already bought the primary / gearbox oil from Harley Heaven, can you please give me the metric measurements AJ.

Mate I use one of those Reusable oil filters and every time I change my oil there is a paste over the magnet. I think shit whats going on.. But it is an internal combustion engine with loads of metal on metal faces whirring around at a phenomenal speed with only a thin film of oil to protect... Of course it is going to wear...

So don't read to much into it. When you drop your primary have a look at the magnet on the end of the plug... It should be covered in a paste of metal... That will be from the chain, main drive and clutch ring. Hell wear and tear....

That piece you are talking about is probably part of your cam chain drive... At some stage you would benefit of a cam case inspection, check the chain tensioners... That model still used spring tensioners and they wear quickly. Easy and cheap fix but something to consider as well.
