    Hi

Not really a Harley specific question, but bike related.

I found these old pictures of my Grand Father taken back in Broken Hill last century sometime.
Can someone more learned than me (older? ha) shed some light on the type of bike he is on?

I think he still had those slippers when I knew him as a kid! :)

    Thanks

Thought it might have been a soft tail due to the slippers and the handbag.

Hate to burst your bubble lads but the bike is a 1937 or 1938 Victoria made in Germany it's a KR 35 S with a columbus engine, the slippers have lost me. Cheers Bloke.

Yep it's a Victoria, a number of things give this away, check the centre stand & tool box location. Very nice bike would be worth big $$$$$

Interesting similarities,,,Levis motorcycles were manufactured by Butterfields of Birmingham, and were for many years one of Englands leading manufacturers of two-stroke motorcycles.

Geezuz, even Beeza tried to sneak one in that looked similar.

Fuck me, must have been a popular concept,,, who copied who ?

    A 1937Standard Rex sport classic,,,

Ha-Ha ! and just to add to the interest, check out the engine in a '37 Rudge, particularly the top end and rocker cover,,,,,,,,,

Bingo, 1937 Rudge has the same toolbox, engine ,,, and center stand.

1938 Rudge Sports Special.   The tail light set up is also a clue.

    Slippers,,, close but no cigar,,,

Rider wins the cigar on both counts. Interesting horn hanging of the tank mount as there must have fuck wit tin lid drivers back in the 40's as-well !!! Now we know its hereditary.

Agreed HogBag I reckon rider wins the cigar on the bike I.D. can't argue with that the RUDGE sports special does it for me although the tool box is facing the oppisite way but the tank decals are the same, the slippers need a little more investigation I think, well done Rider.

    Nice catch Hutchy.

I wonder if the owners of these bikes didn't swap the tool boxes from one side to the other for pure aesthetics, and or not to dig into the pillions inner thighs when mounted.

The horn is interesting, not that many of them around now, but they were called the "Sunbeam Horn", I came across one a few years back and when I researched then and found out it's name thought wrongly it was so called because it was made for Sunbeam bikes and cars,,,
Not so, it was a derivative of the Lucas Altette.

They were readily available and were fitted to a heap of different machines including The Harleys of the day, early 40's.
They could be bought as a general accessories from Bike shops.

The other thing that helped ID the bike was the location, shape and size of the speedo.

I caught up with an uncle who is in town from the east over the weekend. He seems to recall it as a Rudge.

    Thanks for the info All..

.... the handbag is probably his iphone/pont & click camera
