My main helmet is a black Shoei XR1100

couldn't give a shit about beards and bobble head open face helmets...comfort is probably my main concern.

got a full Shoei too as it was the only one I could fit my melon in. took me a while to get used to after riding all my life with my uncle's historic leather lid (~50yrs old now, not unlike the one in 'Wild Hogs').

ride what & how you feel like, don't worry about what others perceive to be cool.

to make you feel better google pics of guys falling off their bike with a 'cool' open face helmet; gives a whole new meaning to 'open face'...

I have open face and full faced. For me depends on how I feel on the day. Also what the weather is going to be like. Would be nice if someone came up with an open face with a thin strong chin bar, with visor that went back in to the helmet so you don't have a sail on your head if you choose not to use it.

Both, open around town, full face when on a proper ride for safety and for comfort at some higher speeds

I wear an open face when I ride cause it's cool....Anyone with  a full face on a harley looks like a fish out of water...Anyone with a full face on a Sporty....mmmmmmmmmmmmm well that's just wrong...This threads fucked....It's a bit like selling all your safety gear you wore on your sports bike when you buy a Harley and then buying a vest, rings etc...Oh that's right, when you step onto a Harley you don't need all that gear cause your tougher and blokes on Harley's don't get hurt when they go down...FFS...

Hey Hawaiian Guy you come this forum seeking help which people are willing to give freely but now after reading and answering some of your questions in this post and others I do believe you are riding the wrong brand of bike you seem to be far to intimidated by what people think eg: I ride a Sportster will other Harley riders accept me, I wear a full face helmet I don't think I look as cool as other Harley riders, etc, ect, see where I am going, if you are worrying this much it means you can't be enjoying the bike you own and to be honest with you it may be time for a big rethink about your ownership of a Harley Davidson.

Let us know how it goes mate.

Having the flexibility of full or open face would be real handy if your taking a trip. Nice one day raining the next. Got caught riding for 2 hrs through locus one year (38degrees)  lucky had clipped visor on to my open face before I left. Come out the other side looking like bike and I had hi-vis on. Next day had 200mils rain bike wet from yellow to grey. Had forgotten visor and left it at mates place when I cleaned it. Did 520kms that day no wet weather gear and it was 30degrees I was still  freezing at the end of the day. Amazing the difference with the right gear. Have ridden similar weather (rain 12 degrees or less) with wet weather gear on got off warm and cosy ready to party.

All I can say to Hawaiian guy is. Put in a shit load of kms in allsorts of weather and find out what suits you when. I have worn Hi-vis wet weather over the top of my gear because I had nothing else and no money to buy others. When I got off at the end of the day dry and warm I could not give a shit what anyone else had to say.

Yeah your right Daggs. I think a leather skull cap would be the go though. My feelings might get hurt by what some mean guy might say to me. That would be so sad I would have to have an extra beer with him.

Oh before I go. Blessed be the horsepower god. Please bestow on me more grunt. For I quest for the thrill of the ride. My funds have dried up but my need is still great........ So lotto would be farrrrkin great mate how about a break.

I prefer the peripheral vision I get from a 3/4 helmet. I do own a full face but it's hard to see myself in shop windows, have to turn my head too far.
