Memories fade

Over 40 years of motorcycling, I've had 14 Harleys, last one was a 2003 Softail standard.  Two weeks ago, I bought a new Softail to ride with my brother's Road King.  Not a happy chappy, with no front brakes (dodgy master cylinder) cracked crankcase (new engine on the way at 350km) and the worst jackhammer transmission that I've ever experienced.  Under the thin veneer of civility (EFI, trip computer, ABS) lies a primitive V-twin tractor that has not changed that significantly since I bought my first big twin (4 speed kick start Evo Wideglide) in '84.

My dealer has at least provided a new Breakout as a loan bike, and is doing his best to resolve the issues.  But it's not a good start to my return to the world of Hogleys....

There's always gunna be lemons or we'd never have lemonade - which I don't really like anyway, so I suppose I wouldn't care too much if the lemons were gone but other people like lemons so its good to have them around and kids would have nothing to sell on their stands though that's mostly an American thing but I'm betting lemons are good for lots of things and they saved a lot of sailors lives so hooray for lemons, except the vehicle kind, in all their other lemony forms....that's lemons, not so much sailors which really shouldn't be lemony at all - not that there's anything wrong with that as long as I don't have to see it.

Thanks for the welcome, rodders TonyGswg and 92Fatboy.

The dealer is going to great lengths to resolve things, removed the primary drive cover and replaced the compensator with Screamin' Eagle Big Twin Compensator-42200064 (standard fitment on all 2014 examples of the 103 twin cam), it certainly won't do any harm.

The new master cylinder has been fitted, and I'll be able to pick the bike up tomorrow. The wait for a new engine stamped with my existing engine number could be a couple of months, but I can ride in the meantime. My only previous warranty claims were for cosmetic issues, but as Bonkerz sort of suggested, lemons suck :>)

Hi PJay, welcome.  Sorry to hear about your newest purchase.  It would have put a sour taste in your mouth for sure, especially after owning all those other bikes previously.  As some one else touched mentioned, Id give that Breakout a real good break- in while you have the chance.  Good to know that the dealer is doing everything they can to rectify the faults.  All the best with your new ride.

    Welcome mate.
You've had 14 Harleys since 84 or did I get that wrong. You had Sporties before 84?
