Like dh has said, a bit of stuffing around. but if set up right, they fly. was a guy with an fxr evo with bottle not sure what kit but he spent a lot of time on it himself. it was only an 80 cubic inch evo & he was still improving his times as had lot of HP & stock frame he told me how much HP but i've forgot but he ran very low 11's & trap speed was 136mph so was a 10 second bike & must have had the HP. he road it on street a lot too. this is in NSW

I'm with Dyno here....I looked at the Nitrous kit but in the end the buggering around for short little bursts of power was just not worth it for me. I fugured if I was going to hang something off the bike then it may as well be a turbo - so I did.

I must admit that I have seen a fair few Nitrous kits on bikes over the years BUT NEVER seen one in use...lol...(that basically says it all to me). Saw a guy yesterday on a Softail with Nitrous and just did not not like the setup; he looked like a total poser.

Having said that, they are not that complicated so if you wanted to mess around with one you can do so reasonabley cheaply.

My turbo system runs a standard Keihein carb, albeit with friggin big jets (like a 220 main) and custom needle.

All up you can get one setup for well under $5k.... Mine was circa $2500 all up.

Procharger make a bloody nice looking Supercharger unit that hangs off the left side of the bike and is driven by the Primary. Aerocharger make a kit for Harleys that is awesome (I run an Aerocharger unit) as you do not need to worry about Oil Lines as it runs its own internal oil system and no wastegate is needed either to manage boost.

No lag with the Aerocharger either; yesterday I was cruising at 50km in 4th gear and it was sitting on 1lb of boost already. Only drawback is that they are a low boost system so around 10lbs is the max for these units, they can go higher - I had mine peaking at 20lbs for a while, but then the unit gave up the ghost (man 20lbs of boost on the freeway was absolutely INSANE)

If I had to do it again I would stay away from a Carb system; what a bugger to tune! Its always a total compromise between low speed take-offs and top end WOT with a carbby – do not get me wrong though, it’s totally streetable, but a lot of work goes into getting it right. With an EFI system you just plonk the bike on the Dyno, plug in the laptop and software and you’re good to go.

Engine wise my bike is basically totally stock (except for adjustable pushrods and a head cleanup I did to get rid of casting marks etc).  I also run a blower cam by Andrews - EV31.  Last time i checked she was do 110HP with 10lbs boost, but that was a while back before I got things sorted outed out - I now cap her at 5lbs boost and limit the RPM to 6000 to keep her in line and reliable (its a simple 5 min job to swap out a pressure spring to take her to 8lb or 10lb limits)

Do you have issues with rego when Nitrous system is fitted, or do you have to the bottle disconnected whilst riding on the street

There are some very specific rules around the connection etc of a Nitros system when on the road so its best to read up on them and then make a call as to how close you want to run to them.

In all honesty your not likely to be pinged by the cops unless your being a dickhead or they are in one of those moods - assuming they themselves even know the rules for a Nitrous setup.
