I would get advice from the insurer to find out if your covered in case joe shitbags wipes you out, or in case you come a cropper yourself. But surely the corners would wear off and out before a bikes tyre would? I could be wrong. What's it for, burnouts or to be different, more k's out of it? I'm just curious.

    Good luck.

Note - I would never ride with someone on car tires

they do seem to be more reliable, cost effective, some guys are getting 40000k's out of em compared to 10-15000k's out your standard bike tyre, I'm at the stage where I need to replace my rear so this why I'm putting it out there

     hi,

good one Quinny, lot of paranoia around about things, i follow that link closely and not just on harleys but other bikes they running car tires

i couldnt find specific tyre for my rim just yet but continue to look and read, some of the "classic" motorcycle tyres are shaped very similar to car tyres, shinko in particular

definitely if you road the great ocean road everyday maybe an issue but general cruising probably good,

i got told not to change tyre, oh know dont touch brakes or tyres, and its probably better done than stooge at the shop because you check over things

by the looks of it if you got 200mm softail its pretty easy

    thanks

    Hi,

I dont know how it could be illegal, unroadworthy etc if it meets the size specification and load rating required for the wheel/bike as per bike manual

If you have a 180/60-17 tyre and rated 81H then you need equivalent size and speed load rating,

You would struggle to find anyone to mount it i reckon, you would have to DIY it or have good contacts at shop, custom build or something

    Thanks

I had a car tyre on my Rocket 3. Steered very strangely as expected and chewed the front tyres out very quickly. Was never pulled over or given grief by the law

I accept the testimonies that a car tyre handles OK, and I bet they'd last a lot longer than a bike tyre, but I couldn't trust one myself.

Surely there's an obvious difference in design, with car tyres not designed to contact the road at anything more than pretty much upright. As I see it, laying them over means your riding on an edge, supported by a side-wall that's designed to flex, not like a bike tyre which when laid over still contacts the road on the part of the surface that's designed to do so....

They are VERY different to ride on. Lots of muscle to get them turned and lots of counter steering. Even in a straight line they track towargs the outside of the road. My mate who has 20+yrs riding experiance rode my bike straight out of my drive way and ran on to my neighbours front lawn on the oppisite side of the road!

A person I know where I live fitted a car tyre to his Honda VTX 1800 when he owned it, he swore that it was the best thing he did until it brought him unstuck on a ride.

He said he just pushed the limits to much in a corner and the tyre let go he told me if the bike was fitted with a bike tyre he would of make it through the corner, lucky for him not to much damage done to rider and bike but why the bike was getting repaired he fitted a motorcycle tyre back on.

Moral of the story car tyre's are made for car's, motorcycle tyre's are made for motorcycle's, for the sake of saving a couple hundred dollars on a tyre that could bring you undone, wreck you bike, end up in hospital, end up with no insurance, you got to ask yourself is it really worth it, sorry not for me good luck which ever way you go cheers.
