Had to take my v rod for a exhaust db tst after being pulled up by NSW police. Naturally I fitted the stock exhaust and it passed , no problems. I asked the gentleman doing the test what happens if i get caught with the aftermarket pipes again by police. He said I will receive a hefty fine, he said thats why the EPA now want so many photos of the bike with the tested fitted exhaust. He took about 7 photos. Also said the EPA could deem the bike unregisterable after 3 db tests. So apparently no more swapping pipes for the test then swapping back to aftermarket pipes.Anyone know if this is a load of crap or is it the new rule. I hope not, not riding my Harley sounding like a sewing machine. I was on a v rod muscle with V&H 2 into 1, but now have V&H Slip ons.Quieter but still over the db level.
Thanks ..Steve
Yeh , I`m probably just panicking. I`ll ride around with my slip ons and if I get caught again , well, pay the proposed $750 fine then maybe sell it and buy a jappa (or is yamaha/suzuki/kwaka/honda made in Korea or india these days) anyhow , I can justify riding a jappa with quiet stock exhaust but can`t stand whisper quiet Harleys. Life goes on.
Cheers .. Steve
its the bikes with realy loud pipes that are fucking it for everyone.
Yep, your right Wazdog, the guys with the real loud pipes are fucking it up for all, but unfortunately the police can`t or wont turn a blind eye to the guys with slightly louder than stock pipes. I can`t see the harm in slightly louder pipes to anyones health or safety aspects except the rider who is noticeable by sound to other drivers. I actually asked my neighbours if the exhaust is too loud and both sides said no,they can hear me if i leave around 7am on a Saturday morning but only if they are already awake. My pipes dont wake them up. So where`s the harm in that. Coppers who just dont like bikes.
Cheers .... Steve
So are you guys saying I should revert back to standard pipes on my new (2nd hand) Softy? I love the look of my V&H 2 into 2 (the best looking pipes of all on any Harley IMHO) and I'd hat to have to go back to the ugly looking standard pipes.
