how old is the clutch rik are you fully undoing the lever tension adjuster then readjust after main ajustment they do take a few times to get them right

 you back the cable off fully 1st then adjust downstairs 2nd then adj the cable last

You can back off more to bring the release point closer to the bar.

You could possibly have a broken spring plate in there also causing you not to be able to adjust it correctly
