     My mate has a '96 nostalgia 1340

he has to change plugs every 6 months, they just gum up.

i suggested he not leave the enricher on to warm up, just to start it then push it all the way in and keep the revs up by hand

He wants to know if there are hotter plugs he could use instead of the standard plugs

what are the best one to put in

    What plugs is currently running?
What do you mean by gummed up?
Are they covered in dry or wet soot?

Personally, I use the enrichener to get it to fire, and then use the throttle judicially to keep it running until warmed up, just as you say Soapbox. I found my plugs got sooted up quite quickly, and my bike would cough and splutter for the first few miles if I left the enrichener on for more that a few seconds.

I've posted to this before, and it's been suggested the bike is running too rich, which may be the case, but it's never been altered from stock....still not drilled out that plug.

Whatever the case, minimum enrichener does it for me....

Had the same problem with me 96 fatboy, that was in Cairns so I stopped using my choke ( I don't call it an enricher) but upon moving to Tassie I had to start using my choke again and I have no problems with the plugs, must be a climatic problem.

Yeah, I'd call it a choke too, but I think technically, it actually does something different than a choke....

I've got an 84 and don't use the choke because of that fouling problem.
No probs starting winter or summer. Just use the throttle for warm up and then thats a count of around 30 secs.

I'd say how about a truce, but that suggests a battle...... how about a draw? :)

So was the OP a bait and run? Have not seen him pop his head up again nor answer the questions asked.

Sorry for the late "getting back"
I posted the question for a mate just before I flew out to LA,

Thanks for the replies, I will pass on to him it is best not to use or at the least minimal use of the little black knob pullie out thing, who's name is in question

    Cheers

I think your wrong about the enrichener causeing the problems....If you think about it all it could do is get the plug a little carboned up, which should burn off after a good ride.

I think there is a bigger problem here rather than the startup routine...it could be running too rich etc.

    Cheers Tussuck
I did mention to him that it could be running to rich
