What HD to get?

Hey All, I am in the market for a HD and would like some advice from your experience of what would suit my needs.

I have always riden bikes, mostly jap. CB's a XJ650, rode a Virago 920 around the states. I currently have a Suzuki GSX750F (my second) which is my daily rider. I recently did a 3000km trip on the zuk with a group and most where Harleys. They have convinced me to get a Harley and after turning 40 yesterday I can blame a mid life crisis to convince the wife!

My question is what HD would you get? I want something to ride to work and around town but also be comfortable on a 3000km trip. I have been looking at the Soft tails and Fatboys so far. Thanks in advance.

I'd be looking at something in the dyna range. Generally better road manners than the softtails, lighter than the touring range for about town.

For comfort around town combined with the ability to do longer trips my two recommendations (and this is just my opinion) would be the Roadking or the Switchback.

If you really have to have a softail then the Heritage Softail Classic also has foot boards, bags and screen and would be my 3rd choice.

A secondhand, 96 to 99 Evolution softail. Cheap as fuck. Cant break them and if you are unhappy with the choice, no big loss of coin and easy enough to move on.

The new HDs are pieces of shit compared with the Evo in my opinion.

$12 to 15k gets you a sub 80k Evo softy. Parts are everywhere, carbs are easy, maintenance involves changing oil and tyres.......

Thanks guys for your input, gives me somewhere to focus on now. I do like the look of the Dyna range and the Switchback looks great but a little out of my price range at the moment but will work on that..... Cheers

Burnzi always seems to be out and about and on one ride and another.
He might see this and comment.

    Dear sweet Jesus,

I don't know how many more "which bike should I get" posts I can take. Ride and try the fucking things! How hard can it be? Sure ask about specific models or maybe you want a classic verses a new bike, what are the difference, what should I look for? I know we all start somewhere and people starting out will always ask stupid questions (we all have), but really!

Dude, just get the one you want. Even a 883 is bigger than alot of Jappers out there.

Relying on others is like me saying marry the blonde....she puts out.
You'll have to find out for yourself.

Me, i'd like a Street Glide, but I have a sporty. They are all good for their own reasons.

Just my 2 cents worth. Now I need another beer.

    By capacity...

Rapson even lists a XJ650 and a GSX750F as previous rides.
