a while ago had 2 tyres fitted went home was wiping bike down and noticed paint missing in front fender right in the middle of fender ,wasn't like that when I left tyre shop looked down and this piece of paint was on floor ,was about 3/4 " long an shaped like boomerang. looked closely at fender was at bare metal stage strange I thought that tyre place dropped something and it must
have hit fender got magnifier glass no sign of dint or mark ,put piece of paint back at spot fitted perfect so got glue stuck back on fender and a few weeks ago I removed fender to repair or chrome it ,looking when at under neath fender I noticed paint super thin and flaking off all over the underside of it .I was in the belief their paintwork was done 2 much higher standard I was
shocked paint was cracking at folds edge underneath the fender is rolled at edge to give smoother thicker look ,o its safety as well no sharp edge ,but the fold is just 1/4" and this is where paint is cracking and you can peel or pull it off like in slithers. Paint is thick on seen part but under not so and at end of fold is where problem lies coz water and other continuous material from riding
on road would be like fine sandblasting getting in then starting problem especially at front curve and rear curve I could grab piece and probably peel paint in strips into topside of seen side ,its pretty hard to paint the little curved roll at edge to a high standard as nothing really 2 work with when spraying and rest of underside of guard is just a wispy spray very light just enough 2 cover
metal even see undercoat white in places just thought it could be a lot better now im up 4 paint or just leave off cheaper also found dent in fender was painted like that coz can only see at certain angle and not a mark in paint SHINGLES
08 model only done 24k no dirt road riding always undercover and covered by HD bike cover ,overall bolts and other materials used in making our HD,s not really up 2 spec 4 the amount asked 2 purchase their product ,I mean my bike new in usa 15-16 k here 26-28 roughly would love 2 know y .O and the paint should be the same underneath as on top ,its only a small surface area and rear is much the same bugger it all ,im thinking chrome front fender have to remove pesky rivets holding bracket I guess .
I had 2010 Nightster which had paint blistering and peeling off the front fork sliders, triple trees and swing arm at ten months old. i have to travel 1 klm of dirt every time i ride but Harley replaced the parts after a bit of protest their warranty is a little bit iffy when it come to cosmetics.
They want to know what you clean it with and where it's kept. I had a few electrical issues with that bike, it is some else now. Chrome is not covered under warranty they will lbame you for maintaining your bike, the dealer I bought it from did the right thing by me.
The finish on Harleys is generally first class but they do not paint the in side of any guard fully.
When I purchased my Fatboy Lo in 2010 it had paint issues but they fixed it under warranty which was good.
Also had chrome peeling off the sidestand also dent in the rear guard.
ya think that's bad taste I bidded on an orange irridessent fender on ebay was in usa but I lost bid it sold 4 79buks shipping to oz was 90 or something now would have been a contrast sunburst orange front fender and blue tank and rear guard ,I was only buyin as a spare but missed out ,at present I run no guard and looks alrite 2 me but then what would I know SHINGLES
The paint peeled off the rear gaurd pretty bad on my bob too. It looked like it started at the sharp edge under the fender struts. Didn't really want it black any more anyway.
well besides da paint dilemma the whole bike in QA pretty poor really ,come on every where I look is more detereation rust on nuts an bolts alloy to much upkeep ,wouldn't b so bad if I could physicaly stand and clean an polish bike ,but bad injuries in leg makes looking after appearance of bike beyond my capability can only do short bursts when standing up .I live close 2 ocean an yes that accelerates rusting fuk should just powder coat da whole bike ,but then theres the cost always an obstacle o well it is what it is just could have been better quality for the price ,not many things are made right anymore at least my guns don't deteriate like bike has and there all usa products better QA in product SHINGLES

whilst taking off old set (not very fucking old) just discovered big bubble lifting off under speedo , bottom of tank panel
majority of paint sets have bare metal under gasket - not this one
lucky its hidden , but will take some value off the tins im selling
get the scapel out if you got paint under gasket ,
there both limited edition hd paint sets one has metel finish under gasket and the bubble has paint
fuckin thing will probably rust!
Bloody hell, that's more balloon than bubble. I think I'd be rather annoyed about that.
Doesn't change the fact we pay for high quality and get inconsistent quality. I'm a painter by trade and prep on factory is garbage.
yeah not right at all ,its like ah well any ol how will do ,i thought the guys at harley paint shop would be like more of pride in there workmanship ,fuk even sumthin painted in korea would be of better quality and seems like im not the only person noticing these faults albeit by accident ,like only when pulling parts off to change sumthin an wow what da SHINGLES
Gotta admit ol mate if ya don't undo anything they look fine. except when I was washing fatso I couldn't explain these bits on the drive so went and looked harder.
Flakey paint under the gaurd. rust and shite happening it,s just lucky I wanted to change colours anyhow. But shit if ya owned one like it and had a good look. It would have pissed me right off.if ya didn't wanna paint it.
