I tried to undo the compersating nut, and the shaft the fread was on broke off inside. the compersating sproket came off and it left the inner pieace of the nut inside. does anyone know how to get it out it is a 1986 Harley Davids    https://picasaweb.google.com/graham878/HD?authkey=Gv1sRgCLCIkvHJ4O-u0QE

I am not sure about 86 Harley's but from an engineering perspective I would mount the nut in a lathe and cut the damaged material out sufficiently to allow some thread chasing. If you do not have the means, any machine shop can do this.

if your saying the hex part of the bolt snapped off your in for some pain I would cover everthing up and use a dermal to cut the sleeve part off two cuts 180 apart
but use caution take your time it should release with one cut and a bit of hit with a chisel side ways if you havnt done this sought of thing before
let some one who has done give it a go at this point you have a chance of saving it goodluck

+1 to what Perthog said. Your in for some pain, but if you take it easy with a dremmel tool you should be able to cut off the splined sleeve.

Just DO NOT bash the chit out of it as its basically an extension of your flywheel. If hit the crap out of it then the entire lower end could loose balance.
