I've just put on a set of Licks V2 10 inch shocks on my 48, I was real skeptical at how these things would handle and ride quality but I'm happy to say it's no worse than the stock 48 gear, it's firm but not ass breaking bad. The best bit is the bike legit looks awesome with them on and they are black if you are going down that "blacked out" theme.

    Well worth the $220.

    Is the shock maybe wrong?

Shock does appear wrong, if you look at my pics the bolt housing is the same width as the shock body whereas yours is narrower than the shock body. Original shocks? And yes it looks like a spacer is needed

Ok that makes a lot of sense. So they appear to be different stocks. They are Koni, im assuming these are aftermarket?

Not sure about the Koni being OEM or not, hopefully someone that speaks Sportster can chime in on that one......anyone?

Koni are not OEM. They are aftermarket. I am not an expert on this, but I think this may be the problem, as the aftermarket shocks are sold with one model possibly having multiple applications on different bikes. Works fine stock, but not with the lowering blocks...spacers are the go. TC

Now my next problem is a spacer. Where can I possibly find off the shelf items? Will I have to make some up?

Would anyone have a pic of the stock shocks?

Im just going to cut up some alloy tube and make spacers. Would i need to space the top as well? I wouldnt be spacing them out more than the width of the tubular shock housing..

I'm not a fan of lowering blocks as they throw off the suspension geometry and are really a band aid, but IF you much use them and you need to make spacers, make sure what you put at the bottom you also put at the top (keeping them square to the bike). If you dont you will be putting a thrust pressure on the piston and you will also find the shock bushes will wear/fail quite quickly.

Yeah neither am i, but financially they will have to do for the time being until i can buy some lowered shocks. But you are right in what you said, i will have to space the top out, however im not actually spacing the shocker out any further as i am only taking up the gap so perhaps its not necessary? Is there a rule for squareness of the shocks?

Also would stock (lowered) shocks provide better comfort/handling as opposed to aftermarket shortened shocks?

Usually anything aftermarket are better, but its not a matter of just buying anything that looks good. You need to have the spring rates for your weight. When you are ready let me know and we'll discuss it more in detail. Im a Ikon retailer so i'll do you a deal.
