apes make it worse, but you'll get used to it, hold the fuck on mate! lol Try doing 190 on the ringroad by-pass heheheh (always windy in melbourne's west) A screen will help you, but given the bike has aero dynamics of a shoe box you're going to cop the wind.

yeah the 48 with stock seat is living life on the edge haha. i always feel likeim going to fly right off the back with the normal seat. i swapped to the seat off the 1200c and its much better at highway speeds.

you didnt make a bad choice, you made the best choice :)

It's normal for the 48. Forward controls don't help. I hook my feet behind the brake and shift lever to help relieve my arms.

It all comes down to what your compfy with dude, im done day trips of 850k's on mine and weekends away with 1200+k's (14" apes and) and happy to cruise all day doing 120-140. Give it time your newly found muscles will get stronger and you'll enjoy it more. I used to get a sore neck when i first got my bike but now no issues at all.

I have never felt like I was getting blown off my 48, but when I first got it I had a cheap shit open face helmet that tried to tear my head off over 80kmh. Get a good fitting helmet and discover your stomach muscles.
