What tool do you use to remove the upper and lower mounting bolts off the front brake caliper on an 09 Street Bob?  It's those bolts with a jagged edge head that attach the caliper to the forks...

I tried a couple fo sockets and they "almost fit" but not quite...unless I'm using the wrong ones?

12 point socket or ring spanner. Some are metric

    Torx bolt heads?
Can buy torx Allen keys and torx socket ends. Can buy cheap torx bits at supacheap auto or decent stuff at hardware and tool shops. Often need good tools with Harley bolts given locktite makes things difficult with cheap, soft metal tools

some are metric some are not and as fatbat says some are torx thats the way it is, just get a bigger tool box.

That's them. I think I'll hunt through my 12 points until I find the tightest fit.

I have an 07 Street Bob and 12 point 3/8" and 7/16" and either too small or too big. Probably metric and I don't have metric to confirm. I changed pads few years back and had full tool kit then but cannot recall what socket I used. Someone else does some of my spanner work now

I'm pretty sure the brakes are the only metric bolts on a Harley, at least on my softail.

Yeah offhand not sure but 12 point and as stated some are Metric and some are imperial most of the metric stuff on our bikes is in the front end, and brakes

Tried the 10ml spanners I have and after 20 attempts and cracking my knuckles on the pavement I gave up. Grabbed a 10ml 12 point socket and broke the first ratchet spanner thing (it now turns freely in either direction) and couldn't budge the damn thing with the second one, which at least didn't break... I was just about to go buy a blow torch or something to heat the bolt when I thought I'd use the enormous torque wrench so I'd have some leverage and bingo, the stupid things slid off as if they wasn't even done up at all.

    Hooray for leverage.

Tomorrow I tackle the rest of the job...

It never rains, but it pours.

I seem to have everything "undoing smoothly" (I like to make sure before I rip it all to pieces) then I come across the (I think they're called) "slider cap screw." Torx head that t40s are too big and T30s seem too small - its a loose fit so I can see it holding when I turn. I grabbed a T35 and (quick check) it seems too big...
I was told you can get (order in) T32s, but seriously, WTF! Now that I think of it, does it take "imperial" instead of metric Torx bits? Never even heard of them.

Not sure if I'm talking to anyone (never stopped me before) but problem fixed. As a complete fucking idiot my slider cap screws were hex head, not torx....sigh.

Who'd have guessed! Did you put your glasses on or take your beer goggles off? Great result.
