    Nev Lush has finished tuning my 106inch 2007 Wide Glide, very smooth ,no power band or peakiness .

    Bored standard cyliders,ported standard heads,Crane valve train,60mm body ,Power Vision,S&S turbo mufflers .

    Thank you Nev for a job well done.

    1.22hp per cube. Pretty amazing outta stock ported heads.
    Would be nice to know head specs. Chamber volume, valve sizes, inlet diameter, flow numbers even!!
    Definitely gunna make the 120R crew envious. Lol

    Hi guys,
    All the machining, porting and assy was in-house. On completion I fired the motor once for a few seconds to see the oil light go out then it was off to Lushy to run in on the dyno then test. It’s just a bit of a project for myself for a change, it’s probably more about not spending big bucks on big names but meeting the criteria for a good result.
    The four C’s rule here. Cam, Compression, Capacity, Capability {head flow}.
    The cams were a Crane grind HTC0111/0112 260/266deg 108/108 lc, only .490”lift.
    Head volume 85cc, 2.000”in, 1.615”ex, inlet ports were making 168@.500”and continued through to 175@.600”and then plateaud at that figure through to .700”with no evidence of stall ,so I still have room to move in the cam area, probably .650”will be the next step.
    Ex was 118.8 peak, 11:1 pistons, cranking pressure 185psi Crane lifters, pushrods, springs. 60mm Zippers body and A/C, stock headers and S&S taper turbo mufflers ,Dyna Power Vision tuner and professional tune before hitting the road. , Carbon plates, stock spring and centrifugal lock up clutch, Timken conversion,Lushy also supplied the matched Hagon Nitro shocks
    I didn’t track my time for costing as I only worked on it out of hours {can’t interrupt the daily grind}. I rarely work on bikes so some dithering and pissing around was entertained, as for the machining side,,, “Get it in,, Get it done, Get it right, Get it out” rules here, I’m a really shit boss to work for.
    I have been riding it around suburbia, traffic, stop go. It runs really sweet at low speed and a slight tweak on the grip lets you know it can do the business .The high idle speed and sound is very even, not ragged Perfect! even though my wife had suggested I would only build another bike that I couldn’t ride {I am not a great rider}as I had previously built a 100inch 123h/p Sporty and a hot rod XR1000 both of which tested my rudimentary skills. A while back I thought of a change of pace and bought a stock Bad Boy ,didn’t stay stock for long though ,,Ape hangers, lowered ,hot rod engine ,,,,couldn’t leave it alone,,some never learn…..

    The Crane cam valve lift in the engine was .590”not .490” ,thanks D/H, sorry about that but it’s still not enough.

    As it was done in house the dollar cost was minimal to me ,time is a bigger factor to me so it took a few weekends from start to finish ,some of the work was done before I took the bike of the road ,,head work ,bores etc as I have spares of those parts .

    Feeling that your stock bike is lacking a little can be improved even just by getting it professionally tuned .Before I started on the project I went to Lushy to get the bike tested for a base line, in its stock form with air cleaner and free mufflers it made 66.64 hp and 86.47 ft/lb Then he installed a Power Vision and tuned, the result with tune alone was 74.12 hp and 90.18 ft/lb .very crisp throttle response and got rid of the popping in the exhaust on deceleration.
    As I was riding back from Lushys I was getting wind noise in my helmet, after wrestling with the lid for a number of K’s I pulled over in Mt Compass ,,lid off, lid on ,rearrange visor ,poke and prod what I thought was the offending areas and get back on the road ,,no change ,,then I realized the bike was running much quieter in the exhaust note for the same speeds and loads ,efficiency was the gain here.
    I will post the other dyno graphs later,,, back to work...

    I've been waiting to see this project done since you pulled the cover off to show me the mint bike that engine was built for!

    :-) I see Mr Hood has put up his bike. From my point of view the best thing about all the numbers is the bike is great to ride. It is REAL nice, I took off in 2nd gear easy, as if it was first. Can jog along at 90km in 5th on the flat, smooth and easy. Bike looks stock, is not stupid loud, not crazy cranking pressure( like is popular now) so the engine will not be fickle on hot days etc. A proper real world engine package that can be ridden about lazily at under 3000rpm or goes like stink if you ask it to. Obviously I HAD to have a ride. Only 590 lift....... mmm I would like to see the same cam durations with say 640lift, it would just do it better again. Great job on the heads/motor.

    First off, great hp number.
    But I'm curious, how can your 106ci engine with a 2" inlet valve at 11:1 comp and 590 lift produce 130hp, when a 120R with better heads, bigger cam lift and similar sized T/body, outta the box, produce 120-125hp.
    My own 107, with similar heads, bit less comp, .650 lift and 55mm tbody only pulled 116hp, tuned.
    My current custom built S&S 120ci Twinkie only pulls 135hp with .640 lift, 11.7:1 comp and 55mm tbody.
    I can't quite get my head around it. Only way I see 130hp from a 106ci is wild everything, race fuel, street manners out the window. Matter of fact, 130hp outta any HD motor is gunna be off its tits to a point.
    But amazingly, you guys say 130hp is quiet, streetable, almost stealthy. Not sayin it can't be done, just sayin.

     i race a  dyna w/glide 120R for a sydney dealer ,   this bike has not been retuned for over 20 mths +  but can still pull a 10.225 sec past @ up to 145 mph ,  on the  shop dyno she had 149.9 hp with 145 ft , as the shop mechanic's  are busy with the shop work , i would like too have some one like lushy for a tune but it's a long way from sydney,    but as this is the only all harley /s/eagle  bike  that i know of in the low 10's  i would think it's not too out of tune,   but i sure would like to find out ,   the dyno is a tool  as they do differ from shop too shop , i think the drag strip would tell  the real world hp ,

     Carbon Fiber , you can't tell what heads are better without flowing both on the same flow bench.

    those big motors need more air to make more HP but they make more TQ

     

    Bob i still don't beleave that speed m8 the WSID speed trap was happy a few times & the regular racers on Jappers told me, & your not going quicker, you did  10.1  131mph on that bike but sa,e time with a speed that is 14mph faster, like the 124 S&S carb bike you ran 9's on was doing 138mph with a speed of 145mph thats genuine the bike just has to go quicker but times are the same. it's not your riding your a Top rider top racer. not having a go at you m8 just pointing out a fact.

    thats a great HP & TQ from 106 CID for sure well done to both those EFI need a lot of time. carbs just dirty smelly to tune but still do the job for me.

    Carbon, a 60mm TB has 19% more flow area than a 55. What exhaust and air filter did you run on your 107? I don't know if 120R heads are better than what Mark did or not, they look cool for sure but I do not know what flow they have. What was your head flow, if I know that we may be able to point to where you lost power is. A 120R with just a decent exhaust and tune WILL do 135. They have bags more punch than this 106 in the mid because they are bigger. As Daddyracer alludes the 120Rs can be made to go better. I have one apart here now and the squish is not perfect, they are often assembled with incorrect exh gaskets etc. As Krash sort of says to head flow is power, same head on a bigger/stroked engine gives much more torque than extra power. Did you build your engine and tune it, not sure what you do.

     two meetings ago she ran 139.8 mph again  i was on a 2 sec handicap & had too chase the other guy down  near the finnish line i held that gear & thrash the motor rather than go up a gear  because the other guy was breaking out & i could not pull him in on the finnish line ,  but thats about 7 time's a 139 + mph, as far as the 124 ci dyna goe's she did go faster than 9.9 but it was not recorded proper & i only had the bike for 2 meeting's = 10 or 12 passes ,  with a bit more time on this bike she could of being faster for sure i was just starting to get use to her , i would like too see some of these destoryer riders do it with no sissy bars on a treaded tyre,  no air shifter & 2 stage rev limiter + no taco + shift light , then i could match them on the dyna i think for sure

    Lushy, Deano has tuned all the engines that I've built. I don't recall stating that I "lost" any power.
    I run D&D 2-1's always, fatcat or Boarzilla and R&R cast heads wih 1.8" inlet runners onto 1.94" inlet valve.
    MVA(120r) published head flow numbers are 295cfm@.650, R&R 310cfm@.650.(28")
    But Krash is right in saying all heads would need to tested on the same bench to get a correct comparison. I am only speaking in general terms.
    As you would know better than me, 19% better surface area means fuckall if ya can't stuff it past the valve and into the cylinder, at some point velocity will also suffer.
    All I'm saying is I've never seen 130hp from a 106, naturally aspirated, that is calm and likes cruising the streets on the speed limit all day. As you guys are alluding.
    As i said, not saying it can't be done, cause apparently the SA guys have the secret.lol
    PS. I build my own engines and call it a hobby only, that's what I do. Definitely do not profess to have experience like you guys, but i dont believe everything i see on the net either.thats why i ask questions.Lol
