Hope all goes well with insurance etc Hoges and glad not injured.

I saw the show Colstah was talking about and some brain scientist from USA was saying the most common accident in USA between car and bike was the car turnng left and hitting oncoming bike. (Turning right would be equivelant for us)

This show really opened my eyes as to why so many people dont see things, Not trying to excuse just saying the science is there.

The basic premise of the show is that we are hard wired for Mono tasking and multi tasking is a myth, we are actually shifting focus from one thing to another.

One thing though was I saw so much more of what was going on during the show than my Mrs and kids, I reckon due to being more spatially aware as a bike rider.
This also has some back up in science where Doctor Kawashima (Yes of Nintendo Brain Game fame) has run a series of experiments comparing Motorcycle riders and they all were above average in spatial awareness, he even got some non riders to get licensed and ride and they all showed a marked improvement.

Maybe the answer is to get Everyone to get a motorcyle license and hold for 12 Months before they can apply for a car license.

Sorry to derail post but RIDE SAFE AND AWARE GUYS, they are really out to get us.

The idiot didnt have his indicator on so burnzi thought he was going straight ahead, Then he turned in front of them is the way i read it. ya cant wait at every roundabout if cars coming the other way dont indicate just in case they turn right. the cagey was at fault for not indicating and just turned right in their path. The law says to indicate when turning, he didnt.  Thats the way i see it but one  thing is for sure, cageys dont need an excuse to hit you.

Roundabouts are basically good for bikers... Drivers/Riders that don't know how to use them are bad.

Burnzi, its not 'my system' mate, its the law, Australia wide. You should indicate to go off roundabouts, and the situation you described taking the 3rd exit (turning right) is exactly that. Indicate right until you go past the straight ahead exit then indicate left.

Again, I'm not trying to hijack the thread or tell you its your fault, just that the guy already on the roundabout has the right of way. Don't believe me, look it up mate. I feel for you I really do because this cock in the cage has caused this, all I'm saying is that the guys following you onto the roundabout have to give way to the retard in the cage, even when he doesn't indicate...

I find it mildly ironic that you are complaining about having to indicate on roundabouts but then blame the cagey for not indicating???

As I said earlier in this thread. No-one seems to understand how to indicate on roundabouts. Normthe1 is correct in saying you 'MUST' indicate right when taking the 3rd exit then 'MUST' indicate left when exiting.
The problem is that almost no-one knows this and UNTIL IT IS POLICED, there will be accidents at roundabouts. The problem for us is that we are the most vulnerable of all roundabout users.

The use of the left indicator on the second, third, fourth exits is totally useless. If you look at where the left indicator has to be used (after the just passed exit) it is of no value to the next person entering the roundabout. If you apply the leaving indicator any earlier someone is gunna think you are leaving the intersection 1 exit earlier and are going to enter the intersection just as you plow through their side door. In order to police it, the police would have to be able to use their indicators correctly.

Just sat waiting for a bus at the Anderson roundabout (the exit to Phillip Island from the Bass highway) over a period of half an hour I saw 3 vehicles use a left indicator to leave the 2 lane roundabout. Thats out of roughly 250 vehicles and included 2 police cars and one Ambo. The emergency vehicles did not use indicators to leave the intersection.

Yes it is law to use your indicator to leave the roundabout. Which must mean that all the laws that govern us are perfect, true and just.

The moment you sling your leg over your motocycle you become the supreme ruler of all you survey, you are surrounded by mouth-breathing imbeciles whose incompetence needs to be factored into your thinking.

Shit yeah ! I have always assumed every other car driver on the road has fuckwit potential at the very least

Indeed , I ride around PARANOID , but " in a good way " HAHA...

    More power to you

Hoges, its just dawned on me that ive jumped into your thread without acknowledging the reason it was started in the first place. My apologies. I'm glad to hear that you have come out of the whole thing pretty much in one piece. Being bikeless for a few weeks while pencil-chewing nerds figure out how cheaply they can fix it can be a real pain in the balls. I know. The same way I found out that I don't bounce anywhere near as well as I used to. For me it wasn't the first time, nor will it be the last if I am to be realistic, to console myself, I tell everyone that you cannot know your motorcycle intimately until you have lay down on the road beside it..... It's bonding.

Retroman, splendid number plate. I considered fyu96 for mine, but I'm too much of a tightarse to pay the rta for a message that I can give with an energetically hoisted middle finger.

2 weeks and counting and still waiting for an answer. I was told yesterday they are waiting for a firm salvage cost so they can make a decision to repair it or not.

It will be a 6 to 8 week wait for a frame and the painted parts then it has to be re assembled its going to be close to 3 months all up

    Repair bill is $20,208
Assessor reckons the salvage is only worth 5k
    It's insured for 35k

So they are 10 to 15k better off if they fix it

Bad luck for me not having a bike for 3 months

Having to borrow a car to get to and from work

Loosing 3 months worth or rego and insurance

And having a bike that's value will be less now it has been repaired

Have my solicitor writing up a dispute email now just incase

That's fucked hey , would think at that cost of repair they would have wrote it off , still might , what insurer , I'd be wanting a new one ?
I felt my heritage was never the same after being taken out and left for dead , as it was hit and run , I was made 'at fault , $7k worth of repairs but still felt bent , I traded it for my roadie , cost me another $6k but better than riding around on a bent ride , i put it down to experience and moved on , still a bitter pill to swallow hey ?
Hope it all works out for ya !

Yeah it's fucked that's for sure now the next hurdle.

Get a call today can you please supply the size of the wheels you have fitted to the bike. Cut a long story short they look like they are trying to fuck me any way they can I tell you they are really starting to test my patience.

Obviousely the assessor has said I have a different size front wheel.

Cunts didn't ask me shit when I said I wanted to insure the new wheels I have fitted to the bike.

I know 1 thing I will be telling every cunt I know not to use this insurance company when this is over and done with.

I don't know who You are insured with, I had the misfortune of having to make a claim through Shannons, Within twenty four hours of lodging claim it was assessed & decision made to write off, Within seven days from then received full insured value.

I can't recommend them highly enough based on My personal experience with them.

Yes mate , as I have posted before now , it's all down to the "value" AKA auction price of the "wreck"

( Not too many ) Years ago "wrecked" Harleys sold for FORTUNES at auction , they sure don't now !

So it's cheaper for the Ins Co to "fix" them and that's the way they go.

AND yes , they'll try to "wriggle" like fuck , as with your wheels situation

All the best with that mate

Insurer sounds like AAMI or Alliance.
Cant see why they dont hunt for the best price on replacement bike.
Fucking Crash Repairer sounds like a prick as well.
Good luck with it mate anyway.I wonder if when you get it back you can make a claim against the Insurer and Repairer if it isnt riding Straight or theres other problems with it.
Then again, they might make it better then when you bought it new. Who knows.
Cant understand this Roundabout thing. The prik that didnt put his or her right indicator on must be in LALA land to turn right into incoming traffic.
This thing about who enters first is also a bit wishy washy.
If they dont have an indicator on before they turn and because of this, you have entered the Roundabout and then they turn, the onus is on them to give way.
YOUR in the round about. Have any of you seen Marble Arch round about in London? Its fucking huge. I use to ride a Bicycle through it.Once in, you have to give way to the right, sure, but that,s only up to a point.
Inside right turning traffic have right of way, but outside right turning traffic have also got to proceed with caution and must have there indicator signalling where they are turning out.
So the dude in the roundabout that turned without signaling was in the wrong.
Specially if they hit you in the rear.
